Overview

The Festool Domino DF 500 Sipo Outdoor Tenons are solid hardwood floating tenons made for the Festool DF 500 joining system. This is a tenon accessory designed for mortise and tenon joinery in outdoor and exterior wood applications. Model Number 494869 gives you 300 Sipo tenons sized at 5 mm x 3/4" x 1-3/16" (19 x 30 mm) for repeatable, clean-fitting joints in projects where standard indoor beech tenons are not the right call.

What matters here is the material. Festool uses solid Sipo hardwood for strength and stability, and this version is intended for outdoor use in jobs like decks, exterior trim, gates, and outdoor furniture. If you're building anything that lives outside or sees changing humidity, the wood choice matters just as much as the fit. These tenons are made to handle that kind of work without becoming the weak point in the joint.

The DOMINO shape is a big part of why these work so well. Instead of a round dowel that can spin during glue-up, the flat elongated profile helps lock alignment in place. That makes edge joining and face joining easier to manage, especially when you're trying to keep parts flush during assembly. It also means less fighting the joint when you have multiple pieces to line up at once.

Festool also builds useful details into the tenon itself. The surface is embossed with glue pockets, which helps distribute adhesive more evenly in the mortise. Festool notes that the tenon is approximately 1/16" (2 mm) shorter than nominal length, leaving room in the mortise for glue. That sounds like a small detail, but it matters. You get less hydraulic pressure during assembly and a cleaner fit when you're clamping parts together.

These tenons are suitable for both plywood and solid wood applications. Festool specifically calls out that the dense Sipo material will not expand or telegraph through the material, helping you keep surfaces flat and clean after assembly. For cabinet parts, frames, rails, stiles, and exterior millwork, that kind of consistency is exactly what you want from a joinery accessory.

Compatibility is straightforward: this pack is made for the Festool DF 500. If that is your machine and you need a 5 mm DOMINO for outdoor woodworking or exterior trim joinery, this is the right fit. If you are not using a DF 500, this is not the pack to grab. Simple as that.

Who should buy these? Woodworkers, finish carpenters, cabinetmakers, and exterior trim crews already using the Festool DOMINO system will get the most out of them. They are especially useful for anyone building outdoor furniture, gates, deck details, or weather-exposed assemblies where a strong, well-aligned joint matters and indoor-only tenon stock is not the best choice.

Join Outdoor Parts with More Confidence

If you're joining parts that need to stay aligned while you clamp, the DOMINO format makes life easier than loose round dowels. You get a positive fit, better registration, and a joint made for real assembly work, not guesswork.

• Solid Sipo hardwood is intended for exterior and outdoor projects
• Works as a true floating tenon in mortise and tenon joinery

Keep Parts Aligned During Glue-Up

The flat, elongated body is the whole point. It helps prevent rotation in the mortise so rails, frames, and edge joints stay where you put them while the glue sets.

• Non-rotating shape improves alignment for edge and face gluing
• Suitable for both plywood and solid wood applications

Small Details That Help Assembly Go Smoother

Good joinery accessories do more than just fill a slot. These tenons use embossed glue pockets and slightly reduced length to leave room for adhesive, which helps parts seat more cleanly under clamp pressure.

• Embossed surface helps hold and spread glue in the mortise
• Approximately 1/16" (2 mm) shorter than nominal length to leave glue space
