Key Features

Pocket-Ready Size This trim square is 35% more compact, so it fits easier in pockets, pouches, and tight work areas where a full-size square just gets in the way. Clear Layout Marks High-visibility laser etched markings are built to stay readable after heavy use, which matters when you need quick, repeatable layout lines on trim and finish work. Milwaukee Trim Square Control The precision machined extruded aluminum body gives the Milwaukee trim square a solid feel in the hand while the 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch dual reference heel speeds up common marks.

Overview

The Milwaukee MLSQ040 4-1/2" Trim Square is a compact layout square built for fast, accurate marking in tight spaces. This is a trim square designed for everyday layout work on wood trim, framing components, and general carpentry tasks. Model Number: MLSQ040. If you want a square you can actually keep in your pouch instead of walking back to the saw stand for it, this is the point of this tool.

Milwaukee built this one around real jobsite convenience. Its 35% more compact size makes it easier to use where a larger square feels clumsy, especially on short stock, trim pieces, and bench work. The 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch dual reference heel helps speed up quick marks without extra measuring, and the precision scribe notches at 1/8 inch increments make repeatable layout easier when you are running multiple pieces.

The body is precision machined extruded aluminum, which gives you a good balance of rigidity and light carry weight. For a hand layout tool, that matters more than people think. A square that gets tossed in a pouch, slid across lumber, and used all day needs to hold up without feeling bulky. Milwaukee kept the profile compact while still giving you enough bearing surface for controlled marking.

Another smart detail is the high-visibility laser etched markings. Printed markings can fade and stamped markings can be harder to read at a glance. Laser etching gives this square better long-term readability, which is exactly what you want on a tool meant for constant layout duty. When you are marking cut lines repeatedly, readable graduations save time and reduce mistakes.

At 4.5 inches high, 4.75 inches wide, and with 1/8 inch graduations, this square is sized for close work rather than large layout. That makes it a good fit for trim carpenters, remodelers, punch-list work, and anyone who wants a small rafter-style square for quick marks on site. It is also made in the USA, which will matter to buyers looking for domestic-made hand tools.

If you do finish carpentry, light framing layout, cabinet install, or general shop work, this is the kind of tool that earns a permanent spot in your setup. The Milwaukee MLSQ040 4-1/2" Trim Square is not trying to replace a full-size framing square or speed square. It is built to be the square you actually carry, reach for fast, and trust for accurate everyday marks.

Built for Tight Layout Work

This is where a compact trim square makes sense. On short material and crowded benches, a smaller square is faster to place, easier to hold, and less awkward when you are marking with one hand and stabilizing the stock with the other.

• 35% more compact for pockets, pouches, and tight work spaces
• Dual 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch reference heel supports quick common marks

Mark Once, Read It Fast

Layout tools live or die by readability. Milwaukee gave this square laser etched markings for long-term visibility and added precision scribe notches at 1/8 inch increments so repeat marks stay quick and consistent.

• High-visibility laser etched markings resist wear from regular jobsite use
• Precision scribe notches at 1/8 inch increments help with repeatable layout
