Overview

This is a 12-inch indexing nail puller designed for pulling nails, staples, and other fasteners out of wood and metal during demolition, renovation, and framing work. The Crescent 12-in. Indexing Nail Puller (Model DB12NP-06) is built around a patented indexing head that rotates over 180 degrees and locks into 14 separate positions, which means you get the fastener at the right angle instead of forcing the tool sideways and marring the surrounding material.

On the job, that indexing head is the whole point of the tool. Deck boards, subfloor, trim, and framing rarely give you a clean, straight shot at a nail you are working around joists, corners, and tight gaps. Locking the head into one of the 14 positions lets you set the claw exactly where it needs to be, then use the raised striking surface to seat it under the fastener with a hammer or mallet before you lever it out. That raised striking surface matters because it is built for direct hammer contact, so you are not risking a glancing blow off a rounded edge.

Build quality is straightforward heat-treated forged alloy steel, finished in a Hi-Viz, corrosion-resistant powder coat. The forging keeps the tool from flexing or cracking under repeated prying loads, and the corrosion-resistant finish holds up to the humidity, rain, and general abuse a demolition tool sees over a season of job sites. The ground tip on the claw is shaped to slide under fastener heads without chewing up the wood around them, which saves patchwork on surfaces that are staying in place.

The 12-inch length puts this on the compact end of Crescent's indexing nail puller lineup, which makes it the pick for tight interior work cabinetry, trim, subfloor sections, and anywhere a longer bar would be too much tool for the space. If you need more leverage for larger boards or heavier demolition, Crescent's 16-inch and 24-inch adjustable pry bars with nail pullers pick up where this one leaves off.

This nail puller is built for contractors, remodelers, and flooring or trim installers who pull fasteners as a regular part of the job, plus serious DIYers tackling a deck tear-off, trim replacement, or subfloor repair. If your prying work happens mostly in tight spots where a full-size pry bar does not fit, this is the size to reach for.

An Angle for Every Fastener

Fasteners rarely sit where a straight pry bar wants to attack them. The 14-position indexing head lets you rotate the claw over 180 degrees and lock it in place, so you are pulling nails at the angle the job actually gives you.

• 180-degree indexing range with 14 locking positions
• Raised striking surface accepts direct hammer or mallet blows
• Ground claw tip slides under fastener heads with less surface damage

Built to Outlast the Job

Demolition and renovation work is hard on hand tools. The forged alloy steel body and Hi-Viz powder finish are built to handle repeated prying and striking without cracking, bending, or rusting out on you mid-project.

• Heat-treated forged alloy steel construction
• Hi-Viz, corrosion-resistant powder paint finish
• Compact 12-inch length for tight interior spaces

Pro Tip

Lock the indexing head into the position that lets you strike straight down on the raised striking surface a glancing hammer hit is what usually sends a nail puller skating off the fastener instead of seating under it.

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

The Nail Puller for Jobs a Full-Size Bar Can't Reach

The Crescent 12-in. Indexing Nail Puller earns its spot in the tool bag by handling the tight-space fastener-pulling jobs a full-length pry bar is too big for.

• Who it's for: Trim carpenters, remodelers, flooring installers, and DIYers doing interior demo or repair work in confined spaces.
• Why it stands out: The 14-position indexing head is the differentiator most compact nail pullers give you one fixed angle, this one gives you fourteen.
• Worth knowing: This is a nail puller first, not a heavy prying bar for tearing off full deck boards or larger demolition, size up to Crescent's 16-inch or 24-inch adjustable pry bars.

Common Questions

• Can this be used on both wood and metal fasteners? Yes. The claw and striking surface are built to pull nails, staples, and similar fasteners from both wood and metal, which is common on framing, trim, and light demolition work.
• How many angles can the indexing head lock into? The head indexes over 180 degrees and locks into 14 separate positions, so you can match the tool to the angle of approach the job requires.
• Does it come with a warranty? Yes. Crescent covers this nail puller with a Full Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects.
