Overview

The Makita XRM10 18V LXT / 12V max CXT Lithium Ion Cordless/Corded Bluetooth Job Site Charger / Radio is a jobsite radio and battery charger built for crews, remodelers, and serious DIY users who already run Makita cordless tools. This is a jobsite radio designed for playing music and charging compatible Makita batteries on the job. Model Number: XRM10. If you want one unit that handles site audio, Bluetooth streaming, AM/FM listening, and battery charging without taking up extra space, this one makes a strong case.

What sets the XRM10 apart is that it is not just a speaker with a battery slot. It charges both Makita 18V LXT and 12V max CXT batteries, and Makita states it can charge an 18V LXT 5.0Ah battery in only 80 minutes. That means it can earn its keep even when nobody is listening to music. On a busy site, having the radio double as a charger helps keep batteries rotating instead of leaving another charger plugged in somewhere else.

For sound, Makita uses two 3.5 inch side-firing speakers for true stereo output. In plain terms, that gives you a fuller, wider sound than the thin audio you get from many compact work radios. You can stream from a phone over Bluetooth, tune in AM/FM through the digital tuner, or plug in through the auxiliary port if that is how you prefer to run audio. There are also two USB ports for charging mobile devices, which is useful when a phone is handling playlists, calls, or jobsite communication.

The layout is built for actual use instead of showroom looks. The front control panel is made for easy operation of connected mobile devices, and the menu controls handle FM mono or stereo selection, clock settings, volume, and snooze. A backlit LCD display helps when you are working early, late, or indoors. Makita also includes storage space for portable devices, so your phone or music player has a place to sit instead of riding loose on a bench or tailgate.

Durability is a real selling point here. The XRM10 has IP64-rated dust and water-resistant construction and protective bumpers engineered for rougher jobsite conditions. That does not make it indestructible, but it does mean it is better suited to framing dust, remodeling debris, and daily carrying than a standard consumer Bluetooth speaker. The built-in bottle opener is a small detail, but it tells you Makita designed this around the kind of places where this radio is actually going to live.

Power flexibility is another reason this model stands out. It runs on Makita 12V max CXT and 18V LXT lithium-ion batteries, and an AC adapter is included when corded power is available. Makita states runtime is up to 18 hours with an 18V LXT 5.0Ah battery, which is enough to get through a long day without babysitting it. If you are already invested in Makita platforms, that cross-compatibility matters because you can use the batteries you already own instead of buying into a separate audio system.

At about 13.2 pounds without a battery, this is not a tiny lunchbox radio, but it is still portable enough to move around a site thanks to the large carry handle and compact upright shape. The 11-1/4 inch by 7-1/4 inch by 12 inch footprint keeps it manageable on a bench, in a trailer, or near a work area where floor space is limited.

Who should buy it? The best fit is the Makita user who wants one rugged Bluetooth radio that also handles battery charging. It makes the most sense for carpenters, remodelers, general contractors, electricians, and maintenance crews already running LXT or CXT batteries. If you just want a cheap speaker, this is more tool than you need. If you want a durable Makita platform radio that actually helps keep batteries ready, the XRM10 is the smarter buy.
