Key Features

Clean Cable Splitting The hollow-ground blade is built to split THWN, THHN, and NM cable smoothly and with more control. That means cleaner cuts, less drag, and less time fighting the blade. Built for Strikes A full-tang steel blade and hammer-ready end cap let this knife do more than basic slicing. When you need to tap, score, or work like a light chisel, it is built for that kind of jobsite use. Secure Hand Feel The Tajima VARIX Chisel Knife uses a non-slip elastomer grip and a safety rope mounting hole to stay manageable on the job. That matters when you're working overhead, on ladders, or around finished surfaces.

Overview

Tajima VARIX Chisel Knife is a professional hand tool made for electricians and construction users who need one tool that can split cable cleanly, deburr rough edges, and take some striking force without folding up on the job. This is a chisel knife designed for cable splitting, deburring, and light chisel-style work. Model Number: DK-TN80.

The main reason this knife stands out is the hollow-ground blade. On THWN, THHN, and NM cable, that blade geometry is built to split material smoothly instead of binding and dragging. If you spend time opening jacketed wire or cleaning up insulation without nicking what matters, that design is the whole point. Tajima also adds a deburring groove on the blade, so you can clean up rough cut surfaces without reaching for another tool.

This is not just a utility knife with a fancy shape. The blade has a chisel-like tip for added versatility, which gives you more control when scoring, scraping, or doing detail work where a standard straight knife is not the best fit. Tajima pairs that with a steel blade and hard chrome plating for durability and edge protection in real jobsite conditions.

The full-tang construction matters because it changes how the tool feels under load. When a knife is meant to be tapped or used like a light-duty chisel, you want the blade and handle working as one piece. Tajima built the DK-TN80 with a hammer-ready full-tang blade and an end cap designed to prevent metal-to-metal contact. In plain terms, it is made to take jobsite abuse better than a basic electrician's knife.

Day-to-day usability is solid too. The non-slip elastomer grip helps keep the handle planted in your hand when conditions are dusty or when you're working with gloves. There is also a safety rope mounting hole, which is a small detail that makes sense for ladder work, overhead work, or any situation where dropping a hand tool is a problem. A blade protector is included, which makes storage and transport safer and helps protect the edge between uses.

This Tajima chisel knife makes the most sense for electricians, maintenance techs, and construction pros who want a fixed-blade hand tool that can handle cable work and small prying or striking tasks without switching tools constantly. If your work is mostly precision cable prep and general jobsite utility, this is a more purpose-built option than a standard pocket knife. If you want a folding knife or a tool meant for heavy demolition, this is not that. It is a specialized electrician's chisel knife built for controlled cutting, clean edge prep, and hard everyday use.

Cut Cable With More Control

This blade shape is built for electricians who need cleaner, more predictable cuts on common cable types. The hollow-ground profile is there to help the knife move through material smoothly instead of feeling wedged in place.

• Designed for smooth, precise splitting of THWN, THHN, and NM cables
• Chisel-like blade tip adds control for scoring and detail work

Carry One Tool Instead of Two

The DK-TN80 is built to do more than basic cutting. Between the chisel-style tip, deburring groove, and fixed-blade strength, it covers several small tasks that usually mean reaching for another hand tool.

• Built-in deburring groove helps clean rough cut edges
• Blade protector helps protect the edge and makes storage safer

Ready for Real Jobsite Abuse

Some knives are only meant to cut. This one is built with a full-tang blade and a striking end so it can handle tapping and light chisel-style work when the task calls for it.

• Hammer-ready full-tang blade supports tougher hand-tool use
• End cap is designed to prevent metal-to-metal contact
