Key Features

Light for a Worm Drive At 11.5 lbs, this saw cuts the usual worm drive fatigue without giving up the layout and control pros want. Less weight matters when you are ripping sheet goods, cutting rafters, or carrying the saw all day. 15 Amp Cutting Power The 15 amp motor and worm drive layout are built for fast, steady cuts through framing lumber and thick stock. That means less bogging when the cut gets long or the material gets dense. Faster Setup The Cut-Ready depth system and accessible spindle lock save time where it counts. Quick depth checks and easier blade changes keep the saw working instead of sitting on the bench.

Overview

SKIL SPT77WML-01 Corded 7-1/4 In. Lightweight Worm Drive Skilsaw is built for pros and serious DIY users who want worm drive cutting power without the bulk of older full-weight models. This is a corded worm drive circular saw designed for framing, ripping, crosscutting, and general construction work. Model Number: SPT77WML-01. If you like the left-blade worm drive layout for better sightlines and steady tracking, this is the kind of saw that earns a spot on the truck fast.

The big story here is the balance between power and carry weight. SKIL rates this saw at 15 amps, with up to 5,300 RPM. On the job, that means it is set up to move through framing lumber, plywood, subfloor, and other common wood cutting tasks with the strong pull worm drive users expect. The 7-1/4 inch blade size also keeps replacement blades easy to find, which matters if this is a daily-use circular saw and not a once-in-a-while garage tool.

Where this saw separates itself from older worm drives is the magnesium build. The housing, foot, and gear housing are all called out as magnesium, which is why the saw comes in at 11.5 lbs while still being built for rough jobsite use. That lighter construction is not just a number on paper. It means less fatigue when you are working overhead, climbing, making repeated cuts, or walking the site with the saw in one hand and material in the other. If you want worm drive feel without dragging around extra weight all day, this is the practical upgrade.

SKIL also gave this saw features that actually matter in daily use instead of just sounding good in a spec list. The Cut-Ready depth-of-cut system is there to help make fast, repeatable depth settings. That is useful when you are bouncing between sheet goods and dimensional lumber and do not want to keep second-guessing blade depth. The spindle lock is designed to be more accessible for blade swaps, and the onboard multi-function wrench keeps one more jobsite frustration off the list.

For angle work, the bevel capacity is listed at 53 degrees, with a 90 degree cutting depth of 2-3/8 inches and a 45 degree capacity of 1-15/16 inches. Those are the numbers buyers actually care about because they tell you whether the saw can handle typical framing cuts and bevel work without compromise. The durable magnesium foot and anti-snag lower guard also matter here. A solid foot helps the saw track better against straightedges, and a smoother guard action helps when you are dealing with shorter cutoff pieces or awkward starts.

This is still a corded circular saw, and that is a plus for the buyer who wants full-time cutting power without worrying about battery rotation, charge time, or runtime. The 8 foot cord gives you decent reach, and the saw hook adds a simple but useful storage option when you are working off sawhorses or moving around framing members. The oil-lubricated worm drive gears are also worth mentioning because they are part of why worm drive saws have the reputation they do for long service life and smooth, consistent operation.

Who should buy it? Carpenters, framers, remodelers, deck builders, and contractors who prefer a rear-handle worm drive saw for ripping and framing work are the obvious fit. It also makes sense for serious DIY users who are tired of lighter-duty sidewinders wandering off the line in thicker material. If your priority is compact cordless convenience, this is not that tool. If your priority is reliable corded power, better line visibility from a left-side blade, and a lighter take on a classic worm drive format, the SKIL SPT77WML-01 Corded 7-1/4 In. Lightweight Worm Drive Skilsaw is a very smart buy.
