Overview

The Milwaukee 2525-20 M12 Brushless Rotary Tool is a cordless rotary tool built for jobsite cutting, grinding, sanding, and polishing where corded access is a hassle and control matters more than bulk power. This is a rotary tool designed for detail work, material cleanup, and precision accessory-based tasks. Model Number: 2525-20. If you already run Milwaukee M12 batteries and need a compact tool for finish work, punch-list tasks, or service calls, this one makes a lot of sense.

What separates this tool from throw-in-the-drawer hobby rotary tools is how it holds speed and keeps working under load. Milwaukee states it delivers 30% faster RPM under load, and the brushless motor is a big reason why. In practical terms, that means the tool is less likely to bog down when you are cutting small fasteners, trimming material, cleaning up edges, or sanding in awkward spots. The 12-speed interface lets you adjust from 5,000 to 27,500 RPM, which gives you the range to match the accessory and the material instead of forcing one speed for everything.

The physical design is jobsite-friendly. The Milwaukee 2525-20 M12 Brushless Rotary Tool weighs just 0.8 lb tool-only and uses a barrel grip with an ergonomic contour shape, so it is easy to guide with one hand and easier to steady for detailed work. That matters when you are reaching inside cabinets, working around plumbing fixtures, cleaning up a cutout near a window, or trimming material in a tight mechanical space. The compact body also helps keep your line of sight open instead of fighting a large housing.

Milwaukee also paid attention to the parts that usually slow rotary tool users down. The steel collet is built for durability, and the integrated collet wrench is there when it is time to swap accessories. The tool includes a 1/8 inch collet and is also compatible with 1/32 inch, 1/16 inch, and 3/32 inch collets sold separately. That gives you flexibility to run different accessory sizes depending on the work, which is important for anyone using a rotary tool across multiple trades instead of for one narrow application.

For real-world use, small details help. The built-in LED work light gives you a clearer view of the workpiece when you are cutting or grinding in darker corners, under fixtures, or inside rough openings. The onboard fuel gauge is also useful on service work because you can check battery status before you start a cut instead of getting surprised halfway through. These are simple features, but on a cordless precision tool they save time and frustration.

System fit is another strong point. This tool is part of the Milwaukee M12 platform and fits all M12 battery packs. That makes it a practical bare-tool buy for anyone already carrying M12 batteries and chargers for installation, service, punch work, or general repair. You are not buying into a one-off battery format just to run a rotary tool.

Who is it for? This cordless rotary tool is a smart fit for remodelers, plumbers, electricians, maintenance techs, tile and bath installers, and serious DIY users who need a compact tool for trimming, cleanup, surface prep, and detail cutting. If your work calls for finesse, fast accessory changes, and cordless mobility, this tool earns its place. If you need a heavy material removal tool for large surfaces all day, you should step up to something purpose-built for that job. For detailed fastening-area cleanup and light material shaping, though, this one is right in its lane.

Control Speed for the Material

A rotary tool only helps if you can match speed to the accessory and the task. This one gives you enough adjustment to handle detail work without feeling too jumpy or too slow.

• 12 speed settings with a 5,000 to 27,500 RPM range
• Built for cutting, grinding, sanding, and polishing applications

Works Better in Tight Spaces

The slim barrel grip and low tool weight make this cordless rotary tool easier to hold steady when you are reaching into corners, trimming close to finished surfaces, or doing detail work where visibility matters.

• Tool-only weight is 0.8 lb
• Barrel grip design with ergonomic contour grip for comfort and control

Built to Keep Working Under Load

When you lean into a cut or sanding pass, speed retention matters. Milwaukee pairs the brushless motor with REDLINK intelligence and a steel collet to make this tool more dependable for trade use.
