Key Features

9-Bit Router Set The Freud 91-108 9 Piece Basic Bit Set gives you a practical spread of everyday router profiles in one box, so you can start cutting grooves, rabbets, round-overs, trim edges, and more without piecing a set together one bit at a time. Carbide-Tipped Cutters Carbide tips hold an edge longer than basic steel bits, which matters when you are routing hardwood, plywood, or composite sheet goods and want cleaner cuts with less fuss. 1/2 In. Shank Stability The 1/2 inch shank is the right call for routers that accept it because it adds rigidity and control, especially when you are making profile cuts or working across harder materials.

Overview

Freud 91-108 9 Piece Basic Bit Set (1/2" Shank) is a carbide-tipped router bit set built for general woodworking and everyday edge shaping, trimming, grooving, and joinery tasks. This is a router bit set designed for wood routing in handheld and table-mounted routers. Model Number: 91-108. If you want one set that covers the core profiles most woodworkers actually use, this is the kind of starter collection that makes sense.

Freud positions this set for woodworkers of any skill level, and that tracks with the mix of profiles included. The set covers straight, mortising, dovetail, rabbeting, rounding over, Roman ogee, flush trim, and V-grooving work, which means it can handle a broad range of common shop tasks instead of focusing on one narrow application. That makes it useful for someone building out a first router setup, but it also works as a refresh set for an experienced user who wants a dependable group of everyday cutters in one case.

The carbide-tipped construction matters because router bits live and die by edge quality. Cleaner edges mean less burning, less tear-out, and less time cleaning up parts after the cut. Freud also includes its Perma-SHIELD coating, which is there for a reason: it helps reduce drag and protects against corrosion and pitch build-up. In practical terms, that means the bits stay easier to run and easier to maintain when you are cutting resin-heavy wood, plywood glue lines, or composite material.

The 1/2 inch shank is another real advantage if your router accepts it. Bigger shanks add stiffness, and stiffness matters when a bit is spinning at router speed. You get a more planted feel in the cut and better confidence on edge profiles and trimming passes. For users moving up from lighter-duty 1/4 inch shank bits, that added rigidity is one of the big reasons to step into a set like this.

Freud states that the set is suitable for hardwood, softwood, plywood, and composites. That is important because many real shop jobs bounce between materials. One day it is solid wood edge work, the next day it is cabinet-grade plywood, and after that it might be a composite panel. This set is built around that kind of mixed-use workflow rather than a single-material niche.

Jobsite and shop practicality are covered too. The set ships in a shadow box style case that keeps the bits organized and protected, whether you hang it on the wall or keep it on the bench. That is a simple feature, but it helps when you want to grab the right profile quickly instead of digging through loose cutters in a drawer.

Compatibility is straightforward. These bits are meant for use with handheld or table-mounted routers that accept 1/2 inch shank router bits. That makes the set a fit for many full-size routers and router tables, but it is not the right choice for trim routers or other tools limited to 1/4 inch shanks only. That is the main buying checkpoint before you add it to the cart.

Who should buy it? Woodworkers, cabinet builders, furniture makers, and serious DIY users who want a practical router bit assortment without jumping into a huge specialty set. If your work includes edge profiling, flush trimming, grooves, rabbets, and basic decorative detail, the Freud 91-108 9 Piece Basic Bit Set covers a lot of ground with quality materials and sensible bit selection.

Cover the Core Router Jobs

This set is built around the profiles most shops reach for first. Instead of filling a case with oddball cutters, Freud sticks to bits that handle common routing work across furniture, cabinet, and general woodworking projects.

• Includes profiles for straight cuts, mortising, dovetails, rabbets, round-overs, Roman ogee work, flush trimming, and V-grooves
• A practical way to cover basic joinery, edge treatment, and template-trimming work with one purchase

Ready for Plywood and Veneered Panels

Plywood is where cheap bits start showing their weaknesses fast. Freud lists this set for plywood work, which makes it a strong fit for cabinetry, shelving, jigs, and built-ins where clean edges and repeatable cuts matter.

• Suitable for hardwood, softwood, plywood, and composites
• Carbide-tipped cutting edges help maintain cut quality across glue lines and layered sheet goods

Built for Mixed-Material Shop Work

If your projects move from solid stock to engineered panels, this set stays useful. The Perma-SHIELD coating is there to cut down drag and help protect the bits when materials get sticky or abrasive.

• Perma-SHIELD coating helps reduce pitch build-up and corrosion
• Works with handheld routers and table-mounted routers for flexible shop setup

What's in the Box
