Low-Speed Torque The 0 to 550 RPM range is built for high-torque work like mud mixing and heavy drilling, where control matters more than top-end speed. More Control Under Load A 2-position rear spade handle and 3-position side handle give you better leverage when the bit or paddle starts to pull. Spade Handle Drill Versatility The DEWALT DW130V 1/2 in. Spade Handle Drill handles both mixing and drilling, so one corded tool can cover bucket work and bit work on the same job.

Overview

The DEWALT DW130V 1/2 in. Spade Handle Drill is a corded heavy-duty drill built for tough drilling and mud-mixing work. This is a spade handle drill designed for high-torque drilling and mixing applications. Model Number: DW130V. If you need steady control at lower speed instead of a fast drill that bogs down under load, this is the right style of tool.

The big story here is torque and control. The variable-speed reversible switch and 0 to 550 RPM speed range are set up for jobs where a tool needs to stay manageable while turning large accessories. That matters when you are mixing drywall mud or running larger drilling accessories in wood or steel. Reverse is also useful when mixing because it helps reduce air bubbles in mud, which is a practical detail that saves rework.

DEWALT backs that up with a 9 amp, 120V motor. On a corded mixer drill like this, steady power is the advantage. You are not watching battery charge, and you are not swapping packs in the middle of a mix. For contractors who use a drill hard and for long stretches, that consistency is usually worth more than portability.

The handle layout is what makes this tool easier to trust when the bit grabs. You get a 2-position rear spade handle plus a 3-position side handle, so you can set the drill up for the material, the accessory, and your working angle. That extra leverage gives you more control during mud mixing, hole saw work, spade bit drilling, auger bit drilling, and other heavier-duty tasks where a standard pistol-grip drill can feel outmatched.

DEWALT also kept the weight reasonable at 7.5 lbs. For a tool in this category, that matters. It is heavy enough to feel planted, but light enough to reduce fatigue when you are moving from bucket to bucket or drilling overhead and at awkward angles. The soft-grip handle helps here too by making the drill easier to hold onto during longer runs.

The 1/2 in. keyed chuck is the right call for this type of work. A keyed chuck gives stronger bit retention than a quick-change setup when you are asking the tool to handle higher torque loads. This drill is built for users who value grip strength and durability over convenience. It is a better match for larger drilling accessories and demanding mixing duty than a lighter-duty general-purpose drill.

In real jobsite terms, the DEWALT DW130V 1/2 in. Spade Handle Drill makes the most sense for drywall crews, remodelers, general contractors, and anyone who needs one corded drill for mud mixing and heavier drilling tasks. It is also a solid fit for serious DIY users who want a dedicated mixer drill instead of overworking a standard drill/driver. If your work regularly involves thick material, larger bits, or buckets of compound, this tool earns its keep fast.

When you start mixing drywall mud, use the variable speed gently and take advantage of reverse if needed to keep from whipping air into the bucket. That gives you a smoother mix and less cleanup afterward.
