Key Features

Two Tools, One Battery System This M12 FUEL hammer drill and cordless ratchet combo kit pairs a subcompact hammer drill/driver with a 3/8" ratchet, and both run on the two included M12 batteries. Built for Tight Spaces A 6" long drill and a ratchet with a 3/4" tall low-profile head get into cabinets, engine bays, and mechanical rooms where full-size tools can't. Real Output in a Small Package The drill delivers 400 in-lbs of torque from a POWERSTATE brushless motor, and the ratchet puts out up to 35 ft-lbs for fast fastener run-down.

Overview

The Milwaukee 3404-22 M12 FUEL 1/2-in. Hammer Drill/Driver with 3/8" Ratchet 2.0Ah / 4.0Ah Combo Kit combines a subcompact cordless hammer drill/driver kit with a bare M12 cordless 3/8" ratchet. This is a cordless combo kit designed for drilling, hammer drilling, fastening, and mechanical teardown and reassembly. Model Number 3404-22-PROMO 2457-20 pairs the complete M12 FUEL hammer drill/driver kit, with two batteries, a charger, and a contractor bag, with the 2457-20 ratchet.

The drill is the Milwaukee 3404-20 M12 FUEL 1/2" Hammer Drill/Driver, which Milwaukee calls its most powerful subcompact drill driver. The POWERSTATE brushless motor produces 400 in-lbs of torque, and the 2-speed transmission runs 0 to 450 RPM in low for control on larger fasteners, and 0 to 1,550 RPM in high for fast drilling. The hammer mode adds the ability to drill anchor holes in masonry, which matters for service trades that move from wood to block to sheet metal in the same day.

Size is where this drill earns its keep. At about 6" long and 2.6 lbs, it fits between studs, inside cabinet boxes, and above ceiling grids, and it is light enough to carry on a tool belt all day. Milwaukee backs the compact body with durable hardware: an all-metal 1/2" chuck for grip and bit retention, an all-metal gearcase, a mechanical clutch for consistent fastener driving, an all-metal belt clip, and an LED light for dim work areas. REDLINK PLUS Intelligence manages thermal performance so the drill keeps its speed under load.

The ratchet is the Milwaukee 2457-20 M12 Cordless 3/8" Ratchet, built for auto mechanics and maintenance pros who want air-ratchet speed without the hose. It produces up to 35 ft-lbs of torque and 250 RPM, with a variable-speed metal trigger for control on small hardware. At 10-3/4" long and 1.9 lbs, it is tool-belt portable, and the 3/4" low-profile head slides into engine bays and behind equipment panels. A reinforced steel housing, on-board fuel gauge, and built-in LED finish off a tool made for daily shop use.

The battery mix gives you options. The M12 REDLITHIUM XC4.0 extended capacity pack is the one to run on the drill for longer drilling stretches, while the CP2.0 compact pack keeps the ratchet light and balanced for overhead and under-dash work. Both tools share the same packs and the included charger, so the kit works as a starter set for the M12 system, which includes more than 125 tools.

Who should buy it? Electricians, HVAC techs, plumbers, maintenance crews, and auto techs who want one compact kit that drills, drives, and runs bolts. If you are already on Milwaukee M12, this adds two of the most useful tools in the line. If you are starting fresh, it is a practical way into the platform without paying for a big-platform kit your work doesn't need.

Drill, Drive, and Hammer Drill

Among Milwaukee hammer drills, the 3404 is a subcompact M12 FUEL model. It handles everyday drilling and fastening and steps up to light masonry when you switch to hammer mode. Low gear gives you control for larger fasteners, and high gear keeps small holes moving fast.

• 400 in-lbs of torque from a POWERSTATE brushless motor
• 2-speed transmission: 0 to 450 RPM and 0 to 1,550 RPM
• All-metal 1/2" chuck and all-metal gearcase
• Mechanical clutch for consistent driving

Run Bolts Without the Air Hose

The 2457-20 is a compact cordless ratchet that speeds up the repetitive part of mechanical work, spinning fasteners on and off once they're broken loose. It is not a replacement for an impact wrench on seized hardware, but it saves a lot of wrist time on covers, brackets, and clamps.

• Up to 35 ft-lbs of torque and 250 RPM
• 3/4" low-profile head for tight engine bays
• Variable-speed metal trigger and reinforced steel housing
• On-board fuel gauge and built-in LED

Pro Tip

Break stubborn bolts loose by hand or with an impact first, then let the ratchet spin them off. Using the ratchet for run-down and run-up keeps it working within its 35 ft-lbs rating, where it is fastest.

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

The Milwaukee 3404-22 M12 FUEL Hammer Drill/Driver with 3/8" Ratchet Combo Kit Covers the Service Van

Two compact tools that get used every day, sharing one set of batteries.

• Who it's for: Service techs, maintenance crews, and mechanics who drill, drive, and run bolts in tight spaces.
• Why it stands out: The 6" M12 FUEL hammer drill hits 400 in-lbs, and the low-profile ratchet replaces a lot of hand-ratchet time.
• Worth knowing: The ratchet is for run-down speed, not breaking loose seized hardware, and the drill is still a 12V tool. For all-day large hole boring, step up to an M18 drill.

Common Questions

• Does the ratchet come with its own battery? No. The ratchet is a bare tool, and it runs on the XC4.0 and CP2.0 batteries included with the drill kit.
• Is the drill a hammer drill? Yes. The 3404 is a hammer drill/driver for drilling, driving, and drilling into masonry.
• How fast does the ratchet run? Up to 250 RPM with up to 35 ft-lbs of torque.
• What size sockets does the ratchet take? Standard 3/8" drive sockets.
