Key Features

Hardened Through the Full Length Tempered to 54 to 58 HRC throughout the tool, not just at the tip. That matters when you are striking it regularly and need consistent durability from the point to the head. Octagonal Grip The octagonal body is easier to hold and less likely to roll off the bench. Simple detail, but it makes the punch easier to control when lining up on small pins. Precise Pin Punch Size This Knipex pin punch gives you a 7/64 inch tip on a 6 inch body, which is the kind of reach and size control you want for driving pins cleanly without beating up the surrounding workpiece.

Overview

The Knipex 9R 453 102 KUS 7/64 in. x 6 in. Pin Punch is a precision hand punch built for installing and driving pins out of holes without chewing up the surrounding material. This is a pin punch designed for driving and removing pins in metalworking, woodworking, and general shop use. Model Number: 9R 453 102 KUS. If you need a punch that is sized right for smaller pins and made to take repeated hammer strikes, this is the type of tool that earns a permanent spot in the drawer instead of getting replaced every few months.

What makes this one worth a look is not just the size. The 7/64 inch tip and 6 inch overall length give you a useful mix of control and reach, so you can line up on a pin accurately while keeping your hand a bit farther from the strike zone. The tip is ground and polished, which helps it start cleanly and stay more predictable in the hole. Rounded edges help protect the workpiece, which matters when you are working on finished parts, smaller assemblies, or anything that cannot afford extra marks around the pin.

Knipex lists this punch as forged from hardened chrome vanadium steel, and that is the kind of material choice you want in a struck tool. More important, the tool is tempered to 54 to 58 HRC throughout the entire length, not just at the tip. In plain terms, that means the body and striking end are built to hold up under repeated use instead of being hard in one area and weak in another. The core design is also intended to reduce mushrooming at the striking head, which is a practical durability detail every mechanic, fabricator, or serious DIYer appreciates.

The octagonal body shape is another job-focused feature. It gives you a surer grip when you are positioning the punch with one hand and hammering with the other, and it helps keep the tool from rolling away when it is set down on a bench or cart. That sounds minor until you have chased round punches across a steel top or concrete floor enough times. It is a straightforward design choice, but it improves day-to-day usability.

This punch also meets DIN standards, with both DIN 6450 and DIN 7255 referenced. What matters to the buyer is that it is built as a proper precision punch, not a generic hardware-bin tool. It is made in Germany, and the fit and finish shown in the product images back that up with a clean polished tip and gold lacquered body finish that makes it easy to identify in the tool box.

There is no battery platform, accessory system, or moving mechanism here, and that is exactly the point. This is a dedicated striking tool for users who want the correct size punch instead of making do with a drift, nail set, or whatever is close at hand. It is best suited for mechanics, machinists, metalworkers, woodworkers, leatherworkers, gunsmith-style bench tasks, and anyone doing precise pin removal or installation. If you need one punch for one specific job size and you want it built right, this is a smart buy.
