Overview

The Milwaukee 48-59-2420 M12 Charger and 2.0Ah Battery Starter Kit is a battery and charger kit built for Milwaukee M12 cordless tools. This is a battery starter kit designed for powering and charging M12 tools used in fastening, service work, installation, and general jobsite tasks. Model Number: 48-59-2420. If you picked up an M12 bare tool and need a straightforward way to put it to work, this kit handles that without overbuying battery capacity you may not need.

The big draw here is balance. The included M12 REDLITHIUM 2.0Ah battery gives you compact size with everyday runtime, which matters on lighter M12 tools where extra bulk just gets in the way. Milwaukee states the battery delivers up to 2X more runtime, 20% more power, and 2X more recharges than a standard lithium-ion battery. In real use, that means better consistency through the discharge cycle and less drop-off as the battery empties.

The charger is just as important as the battery in a starter kit, and Milwaukee got the basics right. It accepts all M12 batteries, so this is not a one-tool, one-battery setup that boxes you in later. The charger also uses direct communication with the battery pack to monitor cell voltage, temperature, and charge status. That matters because proper charging helps battery life over time, not just speed on day one.

Charge times are solid for the category. Milwaukee lists 30 minutes for compact M12 batteries and 60 minutes for extended capacity packs. For electricians, technicians, punch-list crews, and maintenance users who rotate a few M12 tools through the day, that is quick enough to keep work moving with a simple swap-and-charge routine instead of stacking multiple chargers around the shop.

The REDLITHIUM pack is also built for tougher conditions than bargain batteries. Milwaukee calls out cooler operation and dependable performance in temperatures down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. If your work starts early in cold garages, service vans, mechanical rooms, or outdoor jobsites, that kind of cold-weather reliability is worth paying attention to because weak battery performance usually shows up at the worst time.

From a system standpoint, this kit makes the most sense for anyone buying into the Milwaukee M12 platform one tool at a time. It gives you one charger and one 2.0Ah battery that can move across compatible M12 tools, whether that means a drill driver, impact driver, ratchet, inspection light, or other compact cordless tools in the line. It is also a smart spare setup for users who already own M12 gear and want another charger station or a lighter battery for compact tasks.

Who should buy it? This kit fits trades and users who value compact cordless tools more than maximum runtime: service electricians, HVAC techs, plumbers, automotive users, maintenance crews, and serious DIYers working inside finished spaces. If you run higher-draw tools all day, you may want a larger battery too. But if you want a dependable everyday battery and a charger that works across the full M12 system, this is the right place to start.

Pro Tip

If you are buying your first M12 bare tool, keep this charger where you actually stage tools at the end of the day, not in a drawer. A 2.0Ah pack works best as a light, everyday battery, so many users pair it with a second higher-capacity pack later for longer run tools.
