Key Features

Lightest 18V LXT Pack At about 0.66 lbs, this compact 18V LXT battery keeps drills, impact drivers, and lights light in the hand for overhead and all-day work. Back to Work Fast A built-in memory chip talks to Makita's rapid chargers, so the pack goes from empty to full in about 15 to 22 minutes on the DC18RC. Built for Jobsite Abuse Internal shock absorbers cushion the cells against drops and vibration, and vented walls cool the cells evenly while keeping debris out. 16 Contact Terminals Sixteen contact points give a firm, rattle-free fit on the tool and steady power delivery, even in dusty or wet conditions. Easy-Release Button An oversized release button lets you pop the battery off the tool quickly, even with work gloves on. High-Energy Cells Denser lithium-ion cells pack more power into each cell, which means fewer cells, less weight, and a smaller footprint on the tool.

Overview

The Makita BL1815N 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Compact 1.5Ah Battery is the smallest, lightest pack in Makita's 18V LXT battery lineup. This is a slide-on lithium-ion power tool battery designed for powering Makita 18V LXT cordless tools where low weight and a compact footprint matter more than maximum runtime. It is model number BL1815N (Makita part number 196235-0), and it is sold as the battery only, with no charger included.

The 1.5 amp-hour capacity is the key number here. Amp-hours measure how much energy the pack holds, and 1.5Ah is on the small end, which is exactly the point. At roughly 300 grams (about 0.66 lbs), the BL1815N takes weight off the end of your arm on tools you hold up all day: drill drivers, impact drivers, oscillating multi-tools, work lights, and inspection tools. For punch-list work, cabinet installs, electrical trim-out, and overhead fastening, a lighter pack makes a real difference by the end of the shift.

Charging is quick. The battery has a built-in memory chip that communicates its usage history to Makita's rapid optimum chargers, which manage current, voltage, and temperature during the charge cycle. Makita lists a full charge in about 15 minutes on the DC18RC and DC18RA rapid chargers (Makita Canada lists 22 minutes on the DC18RC), and about 30 minutes on the DC18SD and DC18SF standard chargers. In practice, a pair of BL1815N packs and a rapid charger can keep a light-duty tool running nonstop.

The pack is built for the jobsite, not the shelf. Shock absorbers inside the housing protect the cells from drops and vibration. Built-in air vents and walls cool the cells evenly while blocking dust and debris from getting inside. Sixteen contact terminals give the battery a firm hold on the tool and keep power delivery consistent, so the pack doesn't wiggle loose or cut out when the tool is working hard. The large release button makes swaps quick, even with gloves on.

On Makita tools marked with the STAR symbol, the battery and tool communicate to provide over-discharge, overheating, and overload protection. That protection helps extend the life of both the battery and the tool by shutting things down before damage occurs, rather than running the cells into the ground.

The BL1815N slides onto any Makita 18V LXT tool and charges on Makita 18V LXT chargers, so it fits into one of the largest cordless tool platforms on the market. It also works in Makita's 18V X2 (36V) tools that run on two 18V LXT batteries, though a 1.5Ah pack is not the right match for those high-demand tools.

Who should buy this: tradespeople and serious DIYers who already own Makita 18V LXT tools and want a lighter pack for compact drills, impact drivers, lights, and other low-draw tools. It is also a smart backup battery to keep in the truck or tool bag. If you run circular saws, grinders, or rotary hammers, pick up a higher-capacity LXT battery for those tools and keep the BL1815N for the lighter work.

Pro Tip

Keep the BL1815N on your impact driver and drill for trim, cabinet, and overhead work, and save your bigger LXT packs for saws and grinders. Two of these on a rapid charger will rotate fast enough that a light-duty tool never sits idle.

Tool Nut's Take

The Makita BL1815N Is the Pack Your Wrist Will Thank You For

The Makita BL1815N 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Compact 1.5Ah Battery is not about runtime. It is about taking weight off the tool so you can work longer with less fatigue.

• Who it's for: Makita 18V LXT owners who spend their day with a drill or impact driver in hand, especially overhead or in tight spaces.
• Why it stands out: It is the lightest pack on the LXT platform, it charges in minutes on a rapid charger, and it still gets the shock absorbers, cooling vents, and 16-contact terminal of Makita's full-size packs.
• Worth knowing: This is the battery only, with no charger. It is the wrong pack for high-draw tools like circular saws, grinders, and rotary hammers, where it will drain quickly.

Common Questions

• Will the BL1815N fit my Makita 18V LXT tools? Yes. It slides onto any Makita 18V LXT tool and charges on Makita 18V LXT chargers.
• How long does it take to charge? About 15 to 22 minutes on the DC18RC or DC18RA rapid charger, and about 30 minutes on the DC18SD or DC18SF charger.
• Does it come with a charger? No. The BL1815N is sold as the battery only.
• Is 1.5Ah enough for my tools? It is a good match for drills, impact drivers, lights, and other light-duty tools. For saws, grinders, and other high-draw tools, a higher-capacity LXT battery will run longer and keep the tool at full power.
