Overview

The Milwaukee 48-59-1850 M18 REDLITHIUM XC 5.0Ah System Starter Kit is a Milwaukee battery and charger kit built for users who need a dependable power source for M18 cordless tools without piecing a system together one item at a time. This is a battery and charger starter kit designed for powering and charging Milwaukee M18 cordless tools. Model Number: 48-59-1850.

At the center of this kit is one M18 REDLITHIUM XC5.0 extended capacity battery pack. That 5.0 amp-hour size hits a practical sweet spot for a lot of trades because it gives noticeably more runtime than compact packs without becoming oversized for everyday drilling, fastening, cutting, and general jobsite use. Milwaukee states this pack delivers more runtime, more power, and more recharges than standard lithium-ion batteries, so the real benefit is fewer battery swaps and less downtime when you are moving from task to task.

The included charger adds a lot of value here. Instead of limiting you to one battery family, Milwaukee includes an M18 and M12 multi-voltage charger. If your setup includes both M18 and M12 tools, this matters. You can keep one charger on the bench, in the van, or on the site and cover both platforms instead of carrying separate chargers for each. That is a simple upgrade to jobsite organization, especially for service work and punch-list jobs where space is tight.

Milwaukee also builds this kit around REDLINK intelligence, which is their system communication between the battery, charger, and tool. In practical terms, that means the battery is doing more than just storing power. It is helping manage overload conditions and monitoring performance to protect both the pack and the tool. That is the kind of feature you appreciate more over time, because it helps reduce heat-related stress and protects your investment when a tool gets pushed in heavier-duty applications.

For day-to-day usability, the onboard fuel gauge is a real plus. You can check remaining charge before climbing a ladder, heading across a jobsite, or starting a task that you do not want to stop halfway through. That sounds basic, but it saves time and helps you plan battery changes instead of getting surprised mid-cut or mid-fastening run.

The battery is also built for rougher conditions. Milwaukee calls out all-weather performance and operation below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The pack is designed to run cooler and route water away from internal electronics, while also helping protect against vibration and drops. For contractors working through winter, in damp conditions, or in the back of a truck where gear gets knocked around, that is the difference between a battery that just works in ideal shop conditions and one that is actually ready for jobsite use.

Compatibility is straightforward. The battery pack is made for Milwaukee M18 cordless tools, and the charger works with both Milwaukee M18 and M12 batteries. If you are already on the M18 platform, this is an easy way to add runtime and a fresh charger to the system. If you are just getting into Milwaukee cordless tools, this starter kit gives you the basic foundation to start buying tool-only M18 tools without paying for duplicate chargers later.

This kit makes the most sense for electricians, plumbers, remodelers, general contractors, maintenance techs, and serious DIY users who want one solid extended-capacity battery instead of the smallest starter pack possible. It is also a smart buy for anyone adding bare tools to an existing Milwaukee setup. You are not paying for extras you may not use, but you are getting the two pieces that directly affect uptime: a 5.0Ah M18 battery and a dual-platform charger.

Start the M18 platform the smart way

The Milwaukee 48-59-1850 M18 REDLITHIUM XC 5.0Ah System Starter Kit is the kind of buy that makes sense because it covers the two things that actually keep cordless work moving: runtime and charging.

• Who it's for: Anyone already running Milwaukee M18 tools, plus first-time buyers who want a battery and charger before adding tool-only purchases.
• Why it stands out: The 5.0Ah pack is a very usable size, and the charger handles both M18 and M12 batteries, which is a big plus if your setup spans both platforms.
• Worth knowing: This kit gives you one battery, not a pair, so it is ideal as a starter or backup power setup rather than a full high-volume rotation by itself.
