Key Features

Joinery-Grade Accuracy Machined from solid aluminum billets and joined with an extended boss, this square is built to hold the flatness and perpendicularity that serious furniture work demands. More Than a Square The Joiner's Saddle Square gives you built-in 30 degree, 45 degree, 60 degree, and 90 degree layout guides, so one tool handles square, angle, and complementary angle work at the bench. Ready to Grab A wall-mountable Rack-It keeps the square protected, visible, and close at hand, which matters when you are laying out parts all day and do not want your precision tool buried in a drawer.

Overview

Woodpeckers JSS-M-2024 Joiner's Saddle Square w/ Rack-It, Metric is a precision layout square for furniture building, cabinet work, and accurate joinery marking. This is a measuring and layout square designed for marking square lines, parallel lines, and common angles on stock. Model Number: JSS-M-2024. If you do work where a small layout error turns into a bad joint, this is the kind of tool that earns its place fast.

What separates this square from common one-piece extruded squares is how it is made. Woodpeckers machines each side from a billet of solid aluminum, then joins the two sides with an extended boss so the tool can hold tighter tolerances for flatness and perpendicularity. That matters because a saddle square only helps if it actually registers true on the workpiece. On joinery parts, cabinet components, and milled stock, that extra precision is the difference between layout you trust and layout you have to double-check.

The layout features are practical, not gimmicks. The metric version uses staggered scribing guides with 1 mm holes on 1 mm spacing to guide a mechanical pencil for repeatable parallel lines. Woodpeckers also set up the right-angle design so one group reads in one direction and another reads in the opposite direction. That means less flipping the tool around and less fighting upside-down readings when you are moving around a case side, face frame part, or shelf stock.

This square also handles angle layout without forcing you to reach for another tool. You get a 45 degree milled edge plus milled slots at 30 degree, 45 degree, 60 degree, and 90 degree. Because those angles originate from the intersection of the two sides, it is easy to lay out complementary angles from the same reference point. For cabinetmakers, furniture builders, and woodworkers doing repeat parts, that makes setup quicker and more consistent.

Size is well thought out for bench work. The sides are 2-1/2 inches deep, with a 7 inch long 45 degree side and a 5 inch long square side. That gives you enough bearing surface to sit solidly on material while still keeping the tool compact enough for drawer parts, rails, stiles, and smaller cabinet components. Laser-engraved scales on the outside edges add direct reference measurements, and Woodpeckers laid out one edge left to right and the other right to left for easier reading from either orientation.

In day-to-day use, the build details matter too. Each side is anodized before assembly and laser engraved for durable markings, and the joining screws are stainless steel. The included Rack-It wall mount is not just a throw-in accessory. Precision layout tools work best when they are stored where they stay protected and easy to grab, and that is exactly what this holder is for.

The Woodpeckers JSS-M-2024 Joiner's Saddle Square w/ Rack-It, Metric is made in Strongsville, Ohio, and it is aimed at woodworkers who care more about accuracy than saving a few dollars on a layout tool. If you build furniture, fit joinery, or do cabinet layout where repeatability matters, this square makes sense. If you only need a rough carpenter's square for general construction, it is probably more tool than you need. For precise woodworking, though, it is right in its lane.

Mark Parallel Lines Without Guesswork

The scribing guides speed up repetitive marking on stock where consistency matters. Instead of measuring and re-measuring offsets, you can run a mechanical pencil through the guide pattern and get clean, repeatable layout lines.

• Metric model uses 1 mm guide holes on 1 mm spacing
• Designed to guide a mechanical pencil for parallel marking
• Helpful for cabinet parts, face frames, drawer components, and joinery layout

Lay Out Common Angles From One Reference Point

When you are switching between square and angle work, this tool keeps the process simple. The built-in angle slots give you the common layouts most woodworkers reach for, and they all originate from the same corner for easier, cleaner setups.

• Milled angle slots at 30 degree, 45 degree, 60 degree, and 90 degree
• 45 degree milled edge adds another fast reference
• Good fit for miters, braces, bevel references, and complementary angle layout

Keep a Precision Layout Tool Protected and Close

Precision tools work better when they are not sliding around in a drawer with everything else. The included Rack-It holder gives this square a dedicated place on the wall so it stays accessible and ready for the next setup.

• Includes a wall-mountable Rack-It storage holder
• Keeps the square visible and easier to protect between uses
• Useful for busy benches where layout tools need a fixed home

Built for Accurate Registration on the Workpiece

A saddle square has to sit flat and square on the material or the rest does not matter. The machined aluminum construction and substantial bearing surfaces help the tool register securely on the edge of the board for dependable marking.

• Each side is machined from solid aluminum billet
• Extended boss construction is used to hold flatness and perpendicularity
• 2-1/2 inch deep sides provide solid contact on the workpiece

Pro Tip

If you are laying out a run of identical cabinet or furniture parts, keep the square registered from the same face and edge every time. That lets the metric scribing guides do the work and helps prevent small reference changes from stacking up across multiple pieces.
