Overview

The Wera Kraftform Kompakt VDE 17 Extra Slim 1 Tool Finder, 17-Pieces is a compact insulated tool kit for electricians, panel builders, and maintenance techs. This is an insulated screwdriver set designed for work on or near live electrical components up to 1,000 V, built around interchangeable blades from the Wera Kraftform Kompakt system. Model Number 05006612001 packs two handles, 14 slim VDE blades, and a pair of Knipex VDE electrician's pliers into one folding textile case.

The interchangeable design is what keeps the kit small. Instead of 14 separate insulated screwdrivers, you get two Kraftform handles and 14 insulated blades, each 6-3/16" (157 mm) long. Lower the yellow ring on the handle, drop in the blade you need, and go. Two handles let you keep the two drives you use most loaded and ready.

The "extra slim" in the name refers to the blades. Most of them use Wera's reduced-diameter iS design, with insulation integrated right down to the tip. That lets the blade slip into narrow, deep screw recesses on circuit breakers, contactors, and terminal blocks that a standard insulated screwdriver can't reach. The Torx T10 and 0.4 x 2.5 mm slotted blades use the standard blade diameter.

The included Knipex VDE 13 96 200 pliers replace several tools in one. They cut, strip, grip, bend, deburr, and crimp ferrules, with induction-hardened precision cable shears rated for copper and aluminum cable up to 5 x 2.5 mm or 9/16" (15 mm) diameter. A safety pawl allows gentle gripping, the head is chrome-plated for rust protection, and the multi-component handles are insulated. Knipex makes a full range of insulated hand tools built to the same IEC 60900 standard.

Wera's Take it easy tool finder speeds up blade selection. Each blade is color-coded by drive profile and laser-engraved with its size, so you can pick the right one out of the case without reading tiny stampings. Hexagonal anti-roll protection keeps blades and handles from rolling off a panel, and the rounded rear of each handle sits in your palm so you can spin the driver quickly to run screws in and out.

Safety is built into every piece. Each tool is individually tested at 10,000 V per IEC 60900 and approved for working voltages up to 1,000 V. The handles accept only Wera VDE blades, which keeps the insulated system intact. A spare 817 VDE blade-holding handle is available if you want a third driver loaded.

A self-adhesive hook-and-loop strip lets you mount the case to a wall, shelf, or workbench trolley so the kit stays where you can find it.

Who should buy it? Electricians, controls techs, and industrial maintenance crews working in panels and switchgear, especially where screws sit deep in modern breakers and terminal blocks. If you want a complete, compact VDE screwdriver kit plus a good pair of insulated pliers in one case, this is it.

Swap Blades in Seconds

Two handles and 14 insulated blades replace a roll of individual VDE screwdrivers. Lower the ring, seat the blade, and get back to the panel.

• (2) 817 VDE blade-holding handles
• (14) VDE blades, each 6-3/16" (157 mm) long

Reach Screws Sunk Deep in the Panel

Reduced-diameter blades carry their insulation all the way down, so they fit narrow recesses on breakers and terminal blocks.

• Integrated protective insulation
• Built for low-lying screw and spring terminals

Find the Right Blade Fast

Color coding by drive profile and laser-engraved sizes let you grab the right blade without squinting at markings in a dim enclosure.

• Color-coded by profile
• Laser-engraved size on every blade

Spin Screws Out Quickly

Once a screw breaks loose, the spinning function lets you twirl the blade between your fingers instead of cranking the full handle.

• Spinning function on the blades
• Anti-roll protection on blades and handles

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

The Wera Kraftform Kompakt VDE 17 Extra Slim 1 Puts a Full VDE Kit in One Case

Fourteen slim insulated blades, two handles, and Knipex pliers cover nearly every screw in a modern panel from one compact case.

• Who it's for: Electricians, panel builders, and maintenance techs who work in and around energized equipment.
• Why it stands out: Reduced-diameter insulated blades reach deep terminal screws, every tool is tested to IEC 60900, and the Knipex pliers do the job of several tools.
• Worth knowing: The handles are not ratcheting. If you want one, the Kraftform Kompakt VDE 17 Extra Slim 2 replaces one of the two standard handles with a ratcheting handle.

Common Questions

• What voltage is this set rated for? Each tool is individually tested at 10,000 V per IEC 60900 and rated for working voltages up to 1,000 V.
• Can I use standard Wera bits in these handles? No. The 817 VDE handles accept Wera VDE blades only.
• What does "extra slim" mean? Most blades use a reduced diameter with integrated insulation, so they fit narrow, deep screw recesses on breakers and terminal blocks.
