Overview

The Wera 9524 Photovoltaic Mounting Tool Set 1, 7-Pieces is a screwdriving and connector tool kit built for installing photovoltaic (solar panel) systems. This is a solar installation tool set designed for tightening PV mounting hardware to a set torque and connecting MC4 solar connectors on the roof or ground array. Model Number 05136043001. It is aimed at solar installers, electricians and service techs who need the right torque on every connection without carrying a full toolbox up the ladder.

The core of the set is the Wera 7442 Kraftform pistol handle adjustable torque screwdriver, set for 26.6-53.1 in-lbs (3.0-6.0 Nm). Torque is set by hand, with no special tools, and the mechanism releases once the set value is reached. Loosening torque is unlimited, so the same tool removes hardware as well as installs it. It is paired with the 889/4/1 F Rapidaptor free-running bit holder, which has a fast-rotating function for a quick return movement during clockwise torque operation without lifting the tool off the fastener.

Why torque control matters on a solar job: PV connectors and mounting hardware have specified tightening values. Undertightened connections can loosen with thermal cycling, and overtightened ones can crack housings or strip threads. A torque screwdriver takes the guesswork out of each connection and makes the work repeatable across an entire array.

For the electrical side, the set includes two Wera 9108 installation tools for MC4 solar connectors. Working in pairs, they give you a secure grip on both halves of an MC4 connector for assembly and disassembly instead of prying with fingers or a screwdriver.

A 1/2" drive deep socket in size 17 with a side wire cutout fits over the cable when installing panel connectors, and a 1/4" to 1/2" adapter lets the torque screwdriver drive that square-drive socket by hand. That combination puts a controlled torque on connector glands that a standard bit cannot reach.

The set also includes a Wera 6003 Joker 17 mm combination wrench, built for narrow spaces. The open end is offset 7.5 degrees with double-hex geometry on both the open end and the ring, so it can be placed every 15 degrees and works at return angles under 30 degrees. In the tight gaps between rails, clamps and panel frames, that geometry means more turns and less repositioning.

Who should buy it? Solar installers, electricians adding PV work, maintenance crews servicing existing arrays and serious DIY users installing their own system. If you are making MC4 connections and torquing PV hardware regularly, this kit replaces a bag of loose tools with one organized set.

Built for the Roof

Everything for connecting and torquing a PV array rides up in one set, so you are not climbing back down for a missing tool.

• Torque screwdriver, bit holder, wrench, socket, adapter and two MC4 tools
• Hook and loop fastener strip included

Fast Return Without Lifting Off

The free-running Rapidaptor bit holder spins back quickly during clockwise torque work, so you can run a fastener down without pulling the driver off the screw between strokes.

• Pistol handle with Rapidaptor quick-release chuck
• Torque range 26.6-53.1 in-lbs (3.0-6.0 Nm)

Works Where Wrenches Usually Don't

The Joker's offset open end and double-hex profile let you reposition in small steps, which matters in the cramped spaces around racking and panel frames.

• Open end offset 7.5 degrees
• Placement every 15 degrees, return angles under 30 degrees

Pro Tip

Look up the connector or clamp manufacturer's tightening value and set the 7442 before you climb. Setting torque on the ground keeps the adjustment accurate and keeps you from fiddling with a dial while balanced on a roof.

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

The Wera 9524 Photovoltaic Mounting Tool Set 1 Puts the Right Torque on Every Connection

Solar work rewards consistency, and this set gives you an adjustable torque driver plus the MC4 tools and wrench that PV jobs actually call for.

• Who it's for: Solar installers, electricians and PV service techs who torque and connect panels regularly.
• Why it stands out: A purpose-built kit: 26.6-53.1 in-lbs (3.0-6.0 Nm) torque control, a free-running bit holder, a slotted 17 mm deep socket and two MC4 tools in one set.
• Worth knowing: Bits are not part of the 7 pieces. Stock the 1/4" hex bits your mounting hardware needs, and for higher torque values look at Wera torque wrench sets.

Common Questions

• What torque range does the screwdriver cover? The 7442 in this set adjusts from 26.6 to 53.1 in-lbs (3.0 to 6.0 Nm).
• Which solar connectors do the installation tools fit? The two 9108 tools are made for MC4 (Multi-Contact) solar connectors.
• Why does the socket have a slot? The side wire cutout lets the 17 mm deep socket slide over the cable when installing panel connectors.
