Overview

Tajima VARIX EZ Cable Stripper Model DK-MC40L is a specialized hand tool for stripping cable jackets cleanly and safely. This is a cable stripper designed for electrical cable stripping and prep work. It is aimed at electricians and construction pros who need better control than a utility knife gives them, especially when working on larger cable where a sloppy cut can cost time or damage the conductor underneath.

The big selling point here is the automatic blade opening adjustment. Instead of forcing the tool to a fixed position and hoping it tracks correctly, the stripping head adjusts according to cable diameter. In real use, that means less trial and error and a better chance of getting a clean jacket cut without digging too deep. Tajima also adds a guide for stable stripping, which helps the tool stay planted as you work around the cable.

The blade setup is built around durability and service life. Tajima calls out hard chrome-plated blades and a replaceable blade design, which is exactly what you want on a dedicated stripping tool that is going to see repeated contact with tough insulation. When the edge eventually wears, you are not tossing the whole tool. That makes more sense for pros who use a cable stripper regularly and want consistent performance over time.

From a handling standpoint, this tool is clearly built for actual field use, not just bench work. The non-slip elastomer grip gives you a more secure hold, including when your hands are gloved or the environment is less than clean. The one-handed lock mechanism is another smart jobsite feature. It helps prevent accidental opening and makes the tool easier to manage when you're moving between cuts, climbing, or working out of a pouch.

Tajima also includes a lanyard attachment hole, which is a small feature that matters more than people think. If you work on lifts, ladders, or in mechanical rooms where dropped tools are a problem, being able to secure the stripper is a real advantage. The overall design shown in the product images also makes it clear this tool is intended to guide the jacket cut with more repeatability than freehand stripping methods.

Who should buy it? If you do regular cable prep, especially in electrical installation or construction work, this tool makes sense. If you only strip the occasional small wire, it is probably more tool than you need. But if you want a purpose-built Tajima cable stripper with automatic adjustment, stable guidance, and a more controlled way to strip cable jackets, the Tajima VARIX EZ Cable Stripper earns its spot in the bag.
