Key Features

Dual Lock Control The Sigma Stop tape measure gives you two ways to control the blade. Auto lock stops the tape as you pull it out, and the manual lock holds it firmly when you need the blade to stay put during layout. Stiff 10 Foot Blade The 10 ft. x 0.6 in. steel blade is built to stay rigid longer, with a 5.3 ft. standout. That helps when you are measuring solo and do not want the tape folding over halfway across the span. Read It Either Way Dual-sided blade markings make overhead, vertical, and edge measurements easier to read. Less flipping the tape around means faster layout and fewer mistakes.

Overview

The Tajima SS-10BW Sigma Stop Standard Scale 10Ft Tape Measure is a compact steel tape measure built for everyday measuring, layout, and punch-list work. This is a tape measure designed for quick, controlled measuring in carpentry, remodeling, and general jobsite tasks. Model Number: SS-10BW. If you want a short tape that is easier to control than a basic retract-only model, this one earns its keep fast.

The big draw here is Tajima's Dual Lock Mechanism. When you pull the blade out, the Auto Lock function stops the tape automatically instead of snapping back right away. When you need a more secure hold, the separate lock button holds the blade firmly. In real use, that means less fighting the tape when you are marking studs, checking cut length, or measuring overhead with one hand on the material.

The blade itself is sized right for close-range work at 10 ft. long and 0.6 in. wide, and Tajima calls it a Strong Tape. The listed 5.3 ft. standout matters because it tells you how far the blade can extend before it wants to collapse. For a compact tape measure, that is the kind of spec that makes solo measurements easier across cabinets, openings, trim stock, and short framing checks.

Another practical feature is the dual-sided blade. That sounds simple, but it is one of those details that saves time all day. When you are measuring above shoulder height, reading from the back side, or checking inside dimensions from an awkward angle, having markings on both sides means you spend less time twisting your wrist or repositioning the case just to see the numbers.

Tajima also backs up the blade with a strong end hook, which is a key detail on any tape measure that gets used on real jobs instead of sitting in a drawer. A tape can have good markings and a smooth return, but if the hook flexes too easily or fails to grab material cleanly, the whole thing becomes less useful. This model is built around controlled extension, solid hook engagement, and dependable blade stiffness.

The housing is compact and jobsite-friendly, with a belt clip for carrying and a shape that fits naturally in hand. At 0.4 lbs., it stays light enough for all-day pocket or pouch carry without being flimsy. The case design is aimed at tradesmen who want something small enough for constant carry but still tough enough to handle normal daily use.

The Tajima SS-10BW Sigma Stop Standard Scale 10Ft Tape Measure makes the most sense for carpenters, remodelers, installers, punch-list crews, cabinet guys, and serious DIY users who need a compact tape for short to medium measurements. It is not trying to replace a long framing tape. It is built for the measurements you make over and over every day, where control, readability, and one-handed use matter more than raw length.

Better Control During Layout

A short tape is supposed to be quick, and the dual lock setup is what makes this one more useful than a basic compact tape. You can pull, stop, mark, and hold your position without the blade constantly trying to get away from you.

• Auto Lock function stops the blade as it is extended
• Manual lock button secures the tape firmly when you need a fixed hold

Compact Size, Useful Reach

This tape measure is small enough to live on your belt every day, but it still gives you enough blade stiffness to handle common solo measurements. That balance is what makes it handy for trim, cabinet work, service calls, and general interior layout.

• 10 ft. blade length handles common short-range measuring tasks
• 5.3 ft. standout helps the blade stay rigid farther out before collapsing

Easy Reading From More Angles

Dual-sided markings are one of those features that sound minor until you use them all day. They speed up inside measurements, overhead checks, and awkward reads where a single-scale blade would force you to rotate the tape or guess at the number.

• Dual-sided blade supports faster reading from either side
• Strong hook and steel blade support repeatable measuring and marking

Pro Tip

Use the Auto Lock for quick mark-and-move layout, then hit the manual lock when you need the blade held dead steady for transferring a cut line. That is the real advantage of the Tajima dual lock setup over a standard retracting tape.

• Who it's for: Pros and serious DIY users who want a compact tape for trim, cabinets, remodeling, service work, and daily layout where a 10 foot blade is enough.
• Why it stands out: The dual lock mechanism, 5.3 foot standout, and dual-sided blade all solve real annoyances that slow you down with cheaper tapes.
