Key Features

Clean Finish Lines The extra-thin 0.020" (0.5 mm) line lays down a narrow, readable chalk mark that is easier to follow when layout needs to stay tight. That matters for finish carpentry where a fat line can throw off the cut. Fast Rewind Tajima's FastWind system with a smooth-running five-gear winding mechanism gets the line back in quickly and with less fuss. You spend less time resetting between marks and more time moving through layout work. Built To Last The heavy-duty aluminum case and non-slip grip surface give this chalk line reel a more durable feel than lighter plastic-bodied options. It is easier to hold onto and better suited to regular jobsite use.

Overview

The Tajima CR402S Chalk-Rite Dura Ultra-Thin 0.020" (0.5 mm) Chalk Snap-Line is a professional chalk line reel built for precise layout work. This is a chalk snap-line designed for marking building materials for cutting and finish carpentry layout. Model Number CR402S. If you need a thinner, cleaner mark than a standard chalk line usually gives you, this is the one to look at.

The big draw here is the 0.020" (0.5 mm) x 98.4 ft (30 m) line. That ultra-thin braided line is made to produce clear, fine chalk marks instead of the wide fuzzy stripe that can get in the way on trim, panels, and other detail work. On jobs where the cut needs to land exactly on the mark, a thinner line makes it easier to split the line and stay consistent.

Tajima also built this reel around speed and control. The FastWind system and smooth-running five-gear winding mechanism help you rewind the line faster after each snap. That sounds like a small thing until you are laying out repeated cuts all day. Faster retrieval means less wasted motion and less aggravation, especially when you are working alone and constantly resetting the line.

The housing is another strong point. This model uses a heavy-duty aluminum case with a non-slip grip surface, so it feels more job-ready than a light-duty reel. The grip helps when your hands are dusty, and the aluminum body gives it a tougher shell for regular site use. At 0.45 lbs, it stays light enough to carry without feeling flimsy.

For day-to-day practicality, the CR402S is built to waste less chalk and refill with less mess. Tajima calls out less chalk spillage from the main body when using the extra-thin braided line, and the large gasket-sealed refill port helps keep chalk where it belongs. That is the kind of detail you appreciate after using cheaper chalk boxes that leak powder into the bag, truck, or toolbox.

This Tajima chalk line reel is a smart fit for finish carpenters, remodelers, cabinet installers, general contractors, and serious DIY users who want tighter layout control than a rough framing line usually provides. If your work depends on readable layout marks and quick resets, the Tajima CR402S Chalk-Rite Dura Ultra-Thin 0.020" (0.5 mm) Chalk Snap-Line makes a lot of sense. If you only need rough exterior layout, it may be more precision than you need, but for clean interior marking work, this is right in its lane.

Pro Tip
