Key Features

Double-Shear Strength The patented double-shear nailing design spreads load through two points on each joist nail. That gives the Simpson Strong-Tie LUS24Z face-mount joist hanger more holding power while cutting down on the number of nails needed. Faster Placement Speed prongs help hold the hanger in place before final fastening. That makes layout and installation quicker, especially when you are setting a run of 2x4 joists. ZMAX Protection ZMAX coating adds corrosion resistance for exterior work and treated lumber applications. If the build sees weather or contact-treated wood, that coating matters.

Overview

The Simpson Strong-Tie LUS24Z face-mount joist hanger is a steel connector made to support a nominal 2x4 joist in wood-to-wood framing. This is a face-mount joist hanger designed for fastening 2x4 members to a header or beam. Model Number: LUS24Z. If you are framing decks, small platforms, blocking, or general residential wood connections and want a hanger that installs quickly without giving up strength, this is the right kind of hardware.

What makes the LUS24Z matter is the way it gets strength without overcomplicating the install. Simpson's double-shear nailing design drives the joist nails at an angle so the load is transferred through two points on each nail. In plain terms, that means a stronger connection with fewer nails than older hanger styles that need more straight-shot fasteners. On the job, fewer nails and easier nailing angles means less time fighting the connector and more time moving down the line.

The hanger also uses speed prongs to help temporarily position and secure it before full fastening. That is a small feature, but anybody who has tried to hold a hanger, keep layout marks lined up, and start nails at the same time knows why it matters. The speed prongs help the hanger stay put while you start your fasteners, which is especially useful when you are working overhead or building out repeated joist bays.

This LUS-series connector is built from 18-gauge steel and uses a face-mount format for common lumber sizes. For the LUS24Z variant, the engineering dimensions listed are 1-9/16 inches wide, 3-1/8 inches high, and 1-3/4 inches for seat depth. That size matches nominal 2x4 framing members. It is not an adjustable hanger and it cannot be modified, so the fit stays consistent with the tested design. That matters because hanger performance depends on using the connector as engineered, not bending tabs or making field changes.

The ZMAX finish is the other big reason to choose this exact version over a standard galvanized hanger. Simpson lists this model as ZMAX coated, with added corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications. If you are working on a deck, porch framing, or any project using pressure-treated stock, the coating is doing real work for you. It helps the hardware hold up better where moisture and treated lumber chemistry would be harder on a lighter coating.

Installation is straightforward, but it needs to be done by the book. Simpson notes that all specified fasteners must be used, and it installs with 10d common nails or #9 x 2-1/2 inch Strong-Drive SD screws. Simpson also notes the angled joist nailing requirement to achieve listed loads. This is not a connector you want to freestyle with. Use the proper fastener pattern, do not bend or remove tabs, and do not modify the hanger if you want the connection to perform the way it was tested and rated.

For real-world use, this connector fits builders, remodelers, deck crews, and serious DIYers who need a dependable 2x4 joist hanger for code-minded wood framing. It is a good choice when you want a common-size hanger that installs fast, resists corrosion better than basic galvanized options, and comes from a line that is tested, load rated, and code compliant. If the job is standard wood framing and the member size is 2x4, the Simpson Strong-Tie LUS24Z face-mount joist hanger is the practical no-nonsense pick.

See the Connection in Place

This hanger is built for direct support under the joist, not just side attachment. That gives you a cleaner, stronger wood-to-wood connection where a 2x4 member lands on a header or beam.

• Face-mount joist hanger for nominal 2x4 framing
• ZMAX finish is suited for exterior and treated-wood applications

Faster Layout, Less Fighting

The speed prongs are there to save time. They help hold the hanger in position while you start the fasteners, which is a lot better than trying to juggle layout, hardware, and nails at the same time.

• Speed prongs temporarily position the connector for easier installation
• Compatible installation options listed include 10d common nails or #9 x 2-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws

Works Better in Tight Framing

Angled joist nailing makes this style easier to use when space is limited. That is one reason the LUS series is so common on deck framing, blocking, and other places where a straight shot is awkward.

• Double-shear design supports angled joist nailing
• Tested, load rated, and code compliant within the LUS series

Made for Standard Wood Framing

The whole point of this hanger is to simplify common-size framing. It is an economical connector for everyday lumber sizes, and it is meant to be installed as engineered without field bending or modification.

• For wood-to-wood connections using nominal 2x4 members
• Cannot be modified and should be installed with all specified fasteners

Pro Tip

Sink the speed prongs first to hold the LUS24Z on your layout mark, then finish with the full specified fastener schedule. It keeps the hanger from walking while you start nails or screws, especially when you are installing a bunch of 2x4 connections in a row.
