Overview

The Simpson Strong-Tie LU24R-18 LU Galvanized Face-Mount Joist Hanger for 2x4 Rough is a face-mount wood connector for joist-to-header installation in wood-framed construction. This is a joist hanger designed for supporting rough-cut 2x4 joists at a header or beam connection. Model Number LU24R-18 is the rough-lumber version in the LU series, built for users who need the right fit on thicker, rough-sawn stock instead of standard dressed lumber.

What matters here is fit and installation speed. This hanger has a 2 inch seat width for 2x4 rough lumber, an 18 gauge steel body, and a 3-11/16 inch height. In practical terms, that means it is made to cradle the member correctly and keep the connection aligned without the loose fit you can get when using a hanger intended for standard 1-1/2 inch material. If you are framing with rough stock, that proper seat width is the whole game.

The LU series is tested, load rated, and code compliant, which is what you want from a structural connector that is doing real work in a framing assembly. Simpson also builds this series with speed prongs that temporarily position and secure the connector before all fasteners are installed. On site, that saves a little time on every connection and makes layout less frustrating, especially when you are working overhead or setting several joists in sequence.

The galvanized G90 finish helps protect the connector in typical wood construction applications. That matters because joist hangers live at the connection point where moisture exposure and contact with treated or jobsite lumber can wear on unprotected steel. The finish does not replace proper application matching, but for standard framing use it gives this hanger the corrosion resistance buyers expect from a structural framing connector.

This Simpson Strong-Tie hanger is a face-mount design, so it installs directly to the supporting member rather than requiring a top-flange layout. That makes it a practical choice where you need a clean joist-to-header connection and want a familiar install method. The LU series is also designed to work with tested fastener selections and published allowable loads, which gives builders and inspectors clearer guidance than generic brackets that do not carry the same level of documentation.

For this specific LU24R-18 version, the intended user is the carpenter, framer, deck builder, or remodeler working with rough-cut 2x4 lumber in wood-framed construction. If you are using standard dressed 2x4s, this is not the one to grab. If you are working with rough stock and want a properly sized Simpson Strong-Tie face-mount joist hanger from a proven connector line, this is the right kind of part to have in the pile before the framing starts.

Faster Layout and Cleaner Fit

This rough-lumber joist hanger is about getting the connection right the first time. The face-mount layout is straightforward, and the speed prongs help keep the part where you want it while you finish fastening.

Pro Tip

If you are framing with rough-cut stock, do not substitute a standard 1-9/16 inch hanger just because it looks close. The LU24R-18 is built around a 2 inch seat width, and using the correct width helps the joist sit properly and keeps the connection from turning into a fit-up problem later.
