Key Features

Built for Big Reactions This cap gives you the bearing length needed for larger girder reactions, which matters when you're supporting heavier beam loads and do not want to rely on a basic flat cap plate. Positive Column Fit The formed cap fits over the lally column for more precise positioning before welding. That helps speed layout and keeps the connection where you want it. Purpose-Built Column Cap The Simpson Strong-Tie LCC7-3.5 column cap is sized for a 3-1/2 inch outside diameter lally column and a 7 inch engineered wood girder, so you are not forcing a generic bracket into a structural job.

Overview

The Simpson Strong-Tie LCC7-3.5 LCC 7-1/8 in. Column Cap for 3-1/2 in. Outside Diameter Lally Column is a welded structural column cap made for connecting a steel lally column to a wood girder. This is a column cap designed for column-to-beam structural support in new construction and replacement work. Model Number: LCC7-3.5. If you are supporting a 7 inch LVL, PSL, or LSL beam on a 3-1/2 inch outside diameter lally column, this connector gives you a cleaner, more purpose-built connection than a standard cap plate.

What matters here is bearing length and fit. This model uses a 7-1/8 inch seat width to match a 7 inch engineered wood girder, helping provide adequate bearing length for larger girder reactions. In practical terms, that means the connector is sized for the beam it is supposed to carry, instead of leaving you to adapt a smaller cap and hope the fit works out. For engineered lumber support points, that extra width is the reason this part exists.

The cap is also formed to fit over the lally column for precise positioning and welding. That sounds simple, but on a real job it makes alignment easier before the weld is made and before the girder is fastened off. The shaped cup around the top of the column gives the installer a more repeatable location point, which is a lot better than trying to center a flat plate by eye.

Material and finish are straightforward and jobsite appropriate. The LCC7-3.5 is made from 12 gauge steel and finished with Simpson Strong-Tie gray paint. The painted finish helps protect the connector during storage and handling, while the formed steel body is built for structural connector duty, not light bracket work. This is hardware for load transfer, not trim carpentry.

For fastening, the published load table for the LCC7-3.5 calls for (8) 16d nails at the girder connection. The listed girder for this model is 7 inch LVL/PSL/LSL, and the listed lally column outside diameter is 3-1/2 inches. The allowable load table shows 15,820 for this model in the LVL/PSL/LSL configuration, with F1 = 1,615. Those are the numbers a buyer actually cares about because they tell you this connector is meant for real structural support work, not a decorative post application.

This LCC cap is a good fit for contractors handling basement beam replacement, structural remodels, post-and-beam support upgrades, and new support column installation where the beam and steel column sizes are already defined. It is especially useful when you need a higher-capacity column-to-beam connection and want a connector designed around that exact geometry. If your column outside diameter or beam width is different, move to the correct LCC size instead of trying to make this one work.

Better Fit at the Support Point

A connector like this earns its keep by making the support point more predictable. The formed cap locates over the column, supports the girder, and gives the installer a dedicated connection point instead of a field-made workaround.

• Designed specifically for 3-1/2 inch outside diameter lally columns
• 7-1/8 inch seat width matches a 7 inch LVL, PSL, or LSL girder
• Made for welding to the column and attaching to the girder

Purpose-Built Instead of Field-Improvised

The geometry is the whole story. This cap is sized around a known beam width and a known column diameter, which helps reduce layout guesswork and gives you a cleaner structural connection when the plan calls for engineered lumber over a steel support post.

• 12 gauge steel body for structural connector use
• Gray painted finish from Simpson Strong-Tie
• Packaging quantity: 1 cap

Pro Tip

Before you order, verify both numbers that matter: the beam width and the lally column outside diameter. With LCC caps, being off by even one size means extra field work or the wrong fit altogether.

Simpson Strong-Tie LCC7-3.5 Column Cap That Solves a Specific Structural Problem

The Simpson Strong-Tie LCC7-3.5 is the kind of connector you buy when the beam size and column size are already set and you want the connection handled the right way.

• Who it's for: Contractors and remodelers working with 7 inch engineered wood girders over 3-1/2 inch lally columns.
• Why it stands out: It is not a generic bracket. The formed cap, beam width, and column fit are all built around this exact application.
• Worth knowing: This is a one-piece structural connector with a very specific fit, so check your column outside diameter and girder width before you click buy.

Common Questions

• What type of column does this cap fit? It is designed for a 3-1/2 inch outside diameter lally column.
• What beam size is this model made for? The LCC7-3.5 is sized for a 7 inch LVL, PSL, or LSL girder with a 7-1/8 inch seat width.
• How is it installed? Simpson specifies fitting the cap over the lally column and attaching it to the girder. The product description also states it is designed to be welded to the column.
