Key Features

Clean Finish Head The small trim head is built for finish work where you want the fastener to disappear instead of calling attention to itself. That means a neater look on trim, molding, and other visible exterior wood details. Drives Fast SawTooth point geometry helps the screw start quickly and drive easier, which cuts down on wasted time at the driver. Less fighting the screw means cleaner results and smoother installs. Exterior-Grade Protection This Simpson Strong-Tie finish trim screw uses Quik Guard coating for interior and exterior applications, including preservative-treated wood. It is a practical choice when finish quality and outdoor durability both matter.

Overview

Simpson Strong-Tie FT07300MB Finish Trim Screw is an exterior wood screw made for trim, molding, siding, and other finish-level wood fastening where you want solid holding power without a bulky head left behind. This is a finish trim screw designed for fastening exterior trim and siding to wood with a cleaner, less visible finished look. Model Number: FT07300MB. In this version, you get a #7 x 3 in. screw with a tan Quik Guard coating and a bulk pack of 1,750 screws.

What matters here is how the features work together. The small trim head is easier to conceal in finish applications, so it suits jobs where appearance counts just as much as holding power. The patented SawTooth point is there to help the screw bite fast and drive easier, which can reduce the need for predrilling in many wood applications. Underhead threads improve countersinking and increase pull-through resistance, so the screw seats cleanly instead of standing proud or tearing up the surface.

The drive setup is also worth paying attention to. This screw uses a T10 6-lobe drive, which gives the bit a more secure engagement than a sloppy recess and helps extend bit life when you are running a lot of screws. For installers doing repetitive trim fastening, that means fewer stripped heads, less cam-out, and more consistent seating depth. Simpson also pairs that with a serrated thread design and a 1.50 in. thread length on this 3 in. model, giving the screw the bite it needs without turning it into a rough framing fastener.

For exterior work, the coating matters. FT07300MB uses Quik Guard coating and is part of Simpson Strong-Tie's exterior-grade finish trim screw line. It is intended for both interior and exterior use, including preservative-treated wood, which makes it a strong fit for visible outdoor trim details, siding attachment to wood, and upgrade work where standard interior trim screws are not the right call. The tan finish also helps it blend better in many exterior wood applications than bright hardware would.

From a design standpoint, this is built as a purpose-made finish fastener, not a generic wood screw. The 0.200 in. head diameter keeps the head small for a refined look, while the trim head profile and underhead thread design help the screw pull in and seat the way finish carpenters want. That is the difference between a screw that just holds material and one that actually helps you leave a cleaner final result.

The best buyer for this screw is someone doing exterior trim carpentry, siding details, molding, repair work, or higher-visibility home improvement projects where a regular deck screw would look out of place. If you need a long 3 in. fastener that still keeps the head size under control, the Simpson Strong-Tie FT07300MB Finish Trim Screw makes a lot of sense. If your job is strictly structural framing, this is not the category you want. If your job is clean exterior finish fastening, it is exactly the kind of screw you should be looking at.
