Key Features

Adjusts On Site The Simpson Strong-Tie LS50Z Adjustable L Angle can be field-adjusted from 0 to 135, so you can tie intersecting wood members together without fabricating a custom bracket. That saves time on repairs, framing corrections, and odd-angle connections. ZMAX Corrosion Resistance The ZMAX galvanized finish adds extra protection for exterior use and treated-wood applications. If the bracket is going where moisture and chemicals matter, this coating is the reason to buy the Z version. Load-Rated Layout This is not just a generic hardware-store corner brace. It has defined fastener locations and published load data, which matters when you need a predictable wood-to-wood connection instead of guessing with a field-made clip.

Overview

Simpson Strong-Tie LS50Z Adjustable L Angle is a load-rated wood connector built for fastening wood-to-wood members that meet at an angle. This is an adjustable angle connector designed for skewed wood framing connections, household repairs, and general reinforcement work. Model Number: LS50Z. If you need a bracket that can handle more than a fixed 90-degree tie, this one gives you room to fit the connection instead of forcing the framing to fit the hardware.

The big reason people buy the LS50Z is flexibility. It ships at 45 and can be field-adjusted from 0 to 135, which makes it useful for roof rafters to hip rafters, angled blocking, and repair work where members do not land square. That adjustability means fewer improvised brackets and less time cutting and drilling jobsite-made clips. Simpson also notes that the LS series has well-defined fastener locations and tabulated load values to account for connection eccentricities, so you are working with a purpose-built connector rather than a bent piece of strap.

Material and finish matter here. The LS50Z is made from 43 mil, 18 gauge steel and uses Simpson Strong-Tie's ZMAX finish. For anyone working outdoors or tying into treated lumber, that extra corrosion resistance is the main upgrade over a standard galvanized version. On a framing repair or exterior reinforcement job, that is not a cosmetic detail. It is what helps the connector hold up in the environment it is actually going into.

Size-wise, this LS50Z version is the 4-7/8 in. model in the LS family. Based on the available dimensional information, it measures about 4-7/8 in. long with an overall width around 3-13/16 in. and height around 1-9/16 in. The connector includes eight fastener holes and is designed for wood-to-wood use. It installs with 10d common nails or #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws, which gives you a clear fastener path if you are matching the connector to the rest of a framing hardware package.

There are also a couple of practical installation points worth paying attention to. Simpson specifies using all required fasteners, and the angle should be bent one time only. That matters because this connector is designed to be adjusted to fit the job, not worked back and forth until the steel fatigues. If you are using a single LS in cold-formed steel framing, Simpson also notes the framing must be constrained against rotation, which tells you this product is engineered around specific connection behavior, not just convenience.

In real use, the LS50Z makes the most sense for carpenters, remodelers, repair contractors, deck builders, and serious DIY users who run into non-standard framing angles. It is also a strong pick when replacing a field-fabricated clip angle with something tested and repeatable. If your job is mostly straight, square framing, a fixed-angle connector may be faster. But if your work includes hips, rafters, repairs, or awkward tie-ins, the Simpson Strong-Tie LS50Z Adjustable L Angle is the kind of small part that keeps a job moving.

Handles Angled Wood Connections Without Custom Fabrication

When wood members meet at a skew instead of a clean 90 degrees, this connector gives you a faster way to tie them together. It is built for wood-to-wood reinforcement where a standard fixed bracket does not line up with the job.

• Designed for fastening wood-to-wood members
• Often used for roof rafters to hip rafters and similar angled framing connections

Bends to Fit the Connection

The main advantage of the LS series is that you can fit the connector to the framing angle on site. That helps on repairs and one-off framing conditions where exact geometry is not known until you are standing in front of it.

• Field-adjustable from 0 to 135
• Ships at 45 and should be bent one time only

Built for Real Exterior Framing Conditions

This version uses ZMAX coating over 18 gauge steel, so it is a better fit for exterior work and treated lumber than a basic interior-use bracket. The hole layout is already defined, which takes the guesswork out of placing fasteners.

• ZMAX galvanized finish for added corrosion resistance
• Eight-hole layout with specified nail or screw options

Pro Tip

Dry-fit the connection and set your angle before fastening because the LS50Z is meant to be bent one time only. Once you have the final angle, fill the specified holes with the correct fasteners instead of skipping locations to save time.

Simpson Strong-Tie LS50Z Adjustable L Angle Is the Smart Fix for Awkward Framing

This is the kind of connector that earns its keep when a standard bracket stops being useful and you still need a clean, load-rated wood connection.

• Who it's for: Carpenters, remodelers, repair crews, deck builders, and DIY users dealing with skewed wood framing or reinforcement work.
• Why it stands out: The 0 to 135 adjustability and ZMAX finish make it more versatile than a fixed angle and better suited for exterior or treated-lumber jobs.
• Worth knowing: This is a single connector, not a hardware kit, and it should only be bent once. Use the specified nails or screws and do not treat it like generic strap metal.
