Universal Dust Pattern The Multifit hole layout is built to line up with a wide range of 5 inch orbital sander backing pads, so you get better dust pull without hunting for a pad-specific disc. Fast-Cutting Aluminum Oxide Aluminum oxide grain and resin-over-resin bonding give these sanding discs a durable cut that holds up on wood, filler, paint, plastics, and non-ferrous metal. P40 for Heavy Removal This Mirka GOLD Multifit 5 in Grip sanding disc pack is the coarse option for stripping finishes, leveling filler, and knocking material down quickly before finer sanding steps.

Overview

Mirka GOLD Multifit 5 in Grip Sanding Discs, Model 23-5MF-040, are 5 inch hook and loop abrasive discs built for orbital sanders. This is a sanding disc designed for stock removal, surface prep, and dust-extracted sanding across wood, filler, paint, plastics, lacquers, and non-ferrous metal. If you need an extra coarse disc that removes material quickly without giving up disc life, this is the right end of the grit range to look at.

The big selling point here is Mirka's Multifit universal hole configuration. On the job, that matters because it helps the disc work with many 5 inch dust-free orbital sanding tools and backing pads instead of locking you into one exact hole pattern. Better dust flow means the abrasive stays cleaner, cuts more consistently, and spends less time skating over packed dust. That is especially useful when you're stripping paint, flattening body filler, or cutting down rough wood where loading can kill performance fast.

The abrasive itself uses aluminum oxide grain with resin over resin bonding and a semi-open coating. In plain terms, that combination is about balancing cut speed and durability. Aluminum oxide is a proven grain for general-purpose sanding, the resin bond helps support the grain under pressure, and the semi-open coating helps reduce clogging when you're working materials like filler, primer, paint, lacquer, or resinous wood. For a coarse P40 disc, that matters because these jobs are usually aggressive and hard on paper.

The 5 inch diameter and grip-style hook and loop attachment make these discs a straightforward fit for common random orbital sanders and dust-extracted finish sanders that use 5" (125 mm) pads. Hook and loop backing keeps disc changes quick, which is exactly what you want when moving through prep stages or swapping out a worn disc mid-job. Less downtime at the bench means more time actually sanding.

This specific version is the P40 grit, which puts it firmly in the heavy-removal category. It is the grit you reach for when you need to strip coatings, level filler, break down rough surfaces, or remove stock before refining with finer discs. It is not the finish-pass disc. It is the get-the-surface-under-control disc. For bodywork, wood prep, and renovation work, that first step is often where the time gets lost, so using the right coarse abrasive matters.

Mirka lists this abrasive for a broad material range including copper alloys, brass, bronze, non-ferrous metal, plaster, filler, glass fiber, synthetic materials, chipboard, veneer, plastics, primer, paint, hardwood, softwood, resinous wood, and lacquers. That wide material coverage makes this a practical shop staple if you bounce between automotive refinishing, cabinet work, repair work, and general surface prep. You are not buying a one-material specialty disc here. You are buying a general-purpose coarse abrasive that can move around the shop with you.

This pack includes 50 discs, which makes more sense for working users than a small trial pack. If you burn through abrasives doing panel prep, filler shaping, paint removal, or rough sanding, a 50-count box keeps you working and cuts down on reorders. For shops that rely on consistent consumables, that is a simple but real advantage.

Who should buy this? Pros and serious DIY users running a 5 inch orbital sander for automotive prep, woodworking, remodeling, paint removal, and filler sanding. If your work starts with rough surfaces and you want fast cut, universal pad compatibility, and better dust extraction than a basic solid disc, the Mirka GOLD Multifit 5 in Grip Sanding Discs are an easy pick. If you are already at finish sanding stages, step to a finer grit in the same line instead.

Better Dust Flow Means More Useful Cutting

A coarse sanding disc works best when dust can move away from the abrasive instead of packing into it. The Multifit hole pattern is built for that exact problem, helping keep the disc cutting instead of glazing over early.

• Multifit universal hole configuration supports dust-free sanding setups
• Designed for 5 inch orbital sanding tools and backing pads

Built for Aggressive First-Pass Sanding

P40 is the coarse end of the process. It is for knocking material down fast, not sneaking up on a finish. When you need to flatten, strip, or level before the finer grits come out, this grit saves time.

• Grit number: P40 / 40 grit
• Suitable for sanding, paint removal, filler work, and rough prep

One Disc That Moves Between Materials

Shops rarely stay on one material all day. This Mirka abrasive is meant to handle wood, coatings, plastics, fillers, and non-ferrous metals, which makes it a practical consumable when your work changes from one project to the next.

• Aluminum oxide grain with semi-open coating for broad material use
• Suitable materials include hardwood, softwood, filler, primer, paint, lacquer, plastics, and brass or bronze

Bulk Pack That Makes Sense in a Working Shop

Abrasives are shop supplies, not display pieces. A 50-pack gives you enough discs to stay productive through prep work, disc changes, and repeat jobs without constantly reordering small quantities.

• Pieces per pack: 50
• Hook and loop backing speeds up disc swaps between sanding stages

• Why it stands out: The Multifit pattern, aluminum oxide grain, and 50-disc box make it a practical working abrasive, not just a generic replacement disc.
