If you are doing detail finish work on metal, the fine grit is the real selling point here.

Overview

The Mirka 23-622-600 sanding disc is a super fine 600 grit abrasive designed for finish sanding and surface preparation on metal. This is a sanding disc designed for fine surface refinement. Model Number: 23-622-600. If you are trying to smooth, clean up, or prep a metal surface without leaving a heavy scratch pattern behind, this is the kind of abrasive you reach for near the end of the process, not at the beginning.

The key detail here is the grit. At 600 grit, this Mirka abrasive is meant for controlled finishing work, light material removal, and getting a surface ready for polishing, coating, or another finishing step. That matters because coarse abrasives move fast but leave a rougher surface, while a super fine sanding disc helps you tighten up the finish and reduce rework.

The abrasive material is aluminum oxide, which is a dependable choice for general sanding work and a familiar option in the shop. On a practical level, that means you are getting an abrasive that is commonly used because it balances cutting ability with a refined finish. For metalworking, that combination makes sense when you want a usable finish without stepping into overly specialized abrasive types.

Size also matters here. This product is listed at 6 inches by 6 inches, and the round format makes it suited to sanding setups where even surface contact is important. For users already working with 6 inch sanding accessories, that size is usually the first filter when deciding what to buy because wrong-size abrasives are useless on the job no matter how good the grit is.

This abrasive is intended for metal. That makes it a logical fit for shop work, fabrication cleanup, finish prep, and other metal surface tasks where you want better control than a coarser disc can give you. The fine grit is especially useful when appearance matters, or when the next step in the process depends on a cleaner, more uniform surface.

Who should buy this? Anyone doing metal finishing, light surface correction, or fine sanding with a 6 inch abrasive setup. That includes metalworking users, automotive users doing detail prep, and serious DIYers who understand that the right grit saves time. If you need aggressive stock removal, this is not the disc for that job. If you need a smoother finish and better surface control, it makes a lot more sense.

Pro Tip

A 600 grit abrasive is usually a finishing step, not your first cut. If the metal surface still has heavier scratches or coating left on it, step through coarser grits first and use this disc to clean up the final surface.
