Key Features

Tight-Space Ratcheting The 90-tooth ratchet uses a 4-degree arc swing, so you can keep working where a standard ratchet needs more room to reset. Anti-Roll Sockets FOUR FLAT sides help keep sockets from rolling off the bench or fender and give you a wrench-ready shape when you need another way to turn them. Complete 25-Piece Set This Milwaukee ratchet and socket set covers both metric and SAE sizes in a compact case, so it is ready for vehicle work, service calls, and shop storage.

Overview

The Milwaukee 48-22-9044 25pc 1/4 in. Drive Metric & SAE Ratchet and Socket Set is a compact mechanics set built around a 1/4 inch drive ratchet, standard sockets, and a 3 inch extension. This is a ratchet and socket set designed for fastening and service work in tight spaces. Model Number 48-22-9044. If you spend time under a hood, inside equipment panels, or doing small fastener work where clearance is limited, this is the size you reach for first.

The big reason this set matters is the ratchet itself. Milwaukee gives it a 90-tooth mechanism with a 4-degree arc swing, which means less handle movement is needed between clicks. In real use, that helps when you are working around hoses, brackets, engine bays, appliance housings, or packed mechanical assemblies where there is not much room to move your hand. The slim profile head and flush directional lever also help keep the ratchet from fighting for space.

Milwaukee did not stop at the ratchet. The sockets use the brand's FOUR FLAT design, which puts four flat sides on the body to help deter rolling. That sounds simple, but it is one of those details you notice fast on the job. Sockets stay put better on a cart, a frame rail, or a slightly uneven work surface. Those same flat sides also make the sockets wrench-ready, giving you another option when a ratchet is not the best fit for the spot.

This set includes both SAE and metric standard sockets, which makes it useful for mixed fleets, garage work, home maintenance, and general repair. Instead of carrying separate small sets, you get a practical range in one case: SAE sizes from 5/32 inch up to 9/16 inch, plus metric sizes from 5 mm up to 15 mm. The included 3 inch extension helps reach recessed fasteners without forcing an awkward angle on the ratchet.

Milwaukee also pays attention to basic shop usability. The sockets have laser engraved size markings for easier identification, which helps when you are moving quickly and do not want to sort through every piece by eye. The removable inner tray is designed for steel storage, so you can keep the set in the supplied portable case or drop the tray into a larger tool chest setup if that works better for how you organize your gear.

Material matters in hand tools, and Milwaukee specifies chrome vanadium steel with a chrome finish. That gives the set the corrosion resistance and general durability most users want in a daily-use mechanics kit. At 2.58 lb, it is also light enough to throw in a service bag, truck box, or drawer without taking up much room.

Who should buy it? This set makes the most sense for mechanics, maintenance techs, HVAC techs, electricians, installers, and serious DIY users who need a compact 1/4 inch drive setup for smaller fasteners and close-quarter work. If you are expecting deep sockets or a larger drive size for higher-torque jobs, this is not that set. But if you want a clean, useful mix of metric and SAE sizes with a very tight ratcheting arc, the Milwaukee 48-22-9044 lands right where a small service set should.

Work Where Larger Ratchets Cannot

Small drive tools earn their keep when access is bad. The ratchet in this set is built for exactly that kind of work, with a fine tooth count and a compact head that help you keep moving in tight service areas.

• 90-tooth ratchet with 4-degree arc swing for limited-clearance fasteners
• Slim profile head and flush directional lever help reduce hang-ups around surrounding parts

Keep Sockets From Wandering Off

The FOUR FLAT socket shape is one of those features that sounds minor until you use it every day. It helps control the socket on work surfaces and gives you another way to turn it when space or angle makes the ratchet less convenient.

• FOUR FLAT sides deter rolling on benches, carts, and vehicle surfaces
• Wrench-ready socket shape adds flexibility beyond standard round-body sockets

Pro Tip

When you run out of swing room, use the FOUR FLAT socket body with a wrench to start or finish the fastener, then go back to the ratchet when you have room to move. It is a handy workaround in engine bays and behind panels.

Tool Nut's Take

Milwaukee 48-22-9044 25pc 1/4 in. Drive Metric & SAE Ratchet and Socket Set Gets the Small Stuff Right

This is the kind of compact mechanics set that actually earns drawer space because the ratchet is fine-toothed, the sockets do not roll around like crazy, and the size range is useful.

• Who it's for: Techs, mechanics, installers, and serious DIY users who need a 1/4 inch drive set for tight access and smaller fasteners.
• Why it stands out: The 4-degree arc swing and FOUR FLAT socket design are not gimmicks. They solve two everyday annoyances: limited clearance and runaway sockets.
• Worth knowing: This is a standard socket set, not a deep socket kit, so buy it for compact service work, not for every fastener on the truck.
