Overview

The Milwaukee 48-11-2440 M12 REDLITHIUM XC 4.0Ah Extended Capacity Battery is a 12-volt cordless tool battery for the Milwaukee M12 platform. This is a battery designed for powering M12 cordless tools with extended run time. Model Number 48-11-2440. If you already run M12 tools and want a larger pack than a compact battery, this is the upgrade that makes the most sense.

The big selling point here is simple: more usable runtime from a battery that stays inside the M12 system. The 4.0 amp hour capacity makes this a practical choice for longer tasks where stopping to change packs slows you down. That matters most on repetitive fastening, service work, punch-list jobs, and general cordless tool use where steady uptime is worth more than shaving every ounce possible.

Milwaukee labels this pack as a REDLITHIUM XC battery, with XC meaning extended capacity. In plain terms, this is the battery you grab when your priority is longer work time from your 12-volt setup. It fits the role between keeping your tools compact and getting enough battery capacity to stay productive through more of the job.

Because this is an M12 battery, its value is tied directly to the platform. If you already own Milwaukee M12 drills, impact drivers, lights, or other compatible cordless tools, adding another higher-capacity pack usually does more for day-to-day convenience than adding another bare tool. A solid battery rotation keeps the tools you already own working the way they should.

This battery is best for users who are already invested in Milwaukee's 12-volt cordless lineup and want a dependable extended capacity option. It makes the most sense for electricians, maintenance techs, service pros, remodelers, and serious DIY users who need M12 runtime without moving up to a larger tool platform. If your work is lighter and compact size matters most, a smaller pack may be enough. If runtime is the priority, this is the smarter pick.
