Overview

The Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12V Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Drill Driver Kit with 4.0Ah and 2.0Ah Battery and Soft Case is a compact cordless drill driver kit built for pros and serious DIY users who need strong drilling and fastening performance without carrying a full-size drill all day. This is a drill driver designed for drilling holes and driving fasteners in tight spaces. Model 3403-22 includes the 3403-20 drill/driver, two M12 batteries, an M12 charger, and a contractor bag.

What makes this kit matter is the balance of size, speed, and usable power. The brushless motor delivers up to 400 in-lbs of torque and a top no-load speed of 1,550 RPM, which gives you enough output for everyday wood drilling, pilot holes, hardware installation, light framing punch-list work, and repeated screw driving without stepping up to a heavier platform. Milwaukee also lists two speed ranges, 0-450 RPM and 0-1,550 RPM, so you can keep better control for smaller fasteners or shift up when you need faster drilling.

The compact body is the big selling point here. At just 5.95 inches long and 2.5 lbs, this subcompact drill driver is built for overhead work, inside cabinets, electrical rough-in, service calls, and anywhere your wrist notices every extra ounce. That shorter length also makes a real difference when you are working between studs or reaching into finished spaces where a bulky drill can be more of a headache than a help.

Milwaukee backed the size with durable hardware where it counts. The 1/2 inch all-metal keyless chuck is there for grip and bit retention, especially when you are switching between twist bits, driver bits, and larger accessory shanks during the day. An all-metal gearcase adds long-term durability for jobsite use, while the mechanical clutch helps keep screw depth more consistent when you are driving repeated fasteners and do not want to cam out or overdrive.

Jobsite usability is solid too. The built-in LED light helps when you are working in dim corners, above ceilings, or inside mechanical rooms. The variable speed trigger gives you better control at startup, and the forward/reverse function is standard but important for quick transitions during fastening work. Milwaukee also includes an all-metal belt clip, which is one of those simple features that matters more the longer your day gets.

This kit runs on the Milwaukee M12 battery platform, which is one of the main reasons it makes sense for existing Milwaukee users. It is part of the M12 System, with compatibility across more than 125 tools, so the batteries in this kit are not locked to one tool. The included XC 4.0 battery gives you longer runtime for repeated drilling and heavier use, while the CP 2.0 battery keeps the tool lighter and slimmer when access matters most.

Who should buy it? If you are an electrician, HVAC tech, plumber, remodeler, maintenance pro, cabinet installer, or general contractor looking for a compact 12V drill driver that still has real bite, this is right in the wheelhouse. It is also a smart pick for DIY users who want a premium compact drill driver kit instead of an entry-level tool they will outgrow. If you need hammer drilling for masonry, this is not that tool. If you need a fast, compact, everyday cordless drill driver that is easy to carry and hard to stall in typical drilling and driving work, this one makes a lot of sense.

Compact Size That Actually Helps on the Job

The shorter body is the reason a lot of trades will reach for this tool first. It gives you better access where full-size drills start forcing awkward wrist angles or partial bit engagement.

• 5.95 in overall length helps in cabinets, service panels, and between framing members
• 2.5 lb tool weight is easier to carry on a belt and easier to manage overhead
• Subcompact format is a strong fit for service work and punch-list tasks

Power and Control for Daily Drilling and Fastening

This is not just a small drill. The motor, clutch, and two-speed setup give you the control you need for hardware and finish work, with enough output to handle tougher everyday tasks too.

• Up to 400 in-lbs of torque for a broad range of drilling and driving jobs
• Two-speed transmission: 0-450 RPM and 0-1,550 RPM
• 12 clutch settings help dial back output for repeatable screw driving

Complete Kit with Flexible Runtime

The included battery mix is well thought out. Run the larger XC 4.0 pack when you want longer runtime, then drop to the CP 2.0 battery when you want the lightest setup possible.

• Includes both an M12 REDLITHIUM XC 4.0 battery and an M12 REDLITHIUM CP 2.0 battery
• M12 charger is included, along with a contractor bag for transport and storage
• Part of the M12 platform, so the batteries work across a large Milwaukee cordless system

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12V Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Drill Driver Kit with 4.0Ah and 2.0Ah Battery and Soft Case is the kind of compact drill you actually keep reaching for

If you want a small drill driver that still feels like a serious jobsite tool, this kit hits the mark.

• Who it's for: Pros and advanced DIY users who need a compact drill for daily drilling, fastening, service work, and punch-list jobs.
• Why it stands out: The mix of 5.95 inch length, 400 in-lbs of torque, all-metal chuck, and two included M12 batteries makes it more useful than a lot of lightweight drills that save size but give up too much power.
• Worth knowing: This is a drill driver, not a hammer drill. Great for wood, fasteners, and general trade work, but not the right pick if masonry drilling is on the menu.
