Overview

The Milwaukee 3012-21 M18 FUEL Pole Articulating Hedge Trimmer 8.0Ah Kit is a cordless extended-reach hedge trimmer built for landscape maintenance professionals. This is a pole hedge trimmer designed for trimming tall hedges, wide tops, and overgrowth from the ground. Model Number 3012-21 includes the trimmer, an M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE XC8.0 battery, an M18 and M12 Rapid Charger, a blade sheath, and a shoulder strap.

Cutting performance starts with the POWERSTATE brushless motor driving 24" double-sided, dual-sharpened blades at 3,500 strokes per minute. The 1" blade gap takes branches up to 1" thick, which lets you work through woody growth instead of stopping to grab loppers. In Milwaukee's testing against a leading 24cc gas pole hedge trimmer, the 3012 made a single pass through twenty 3/4" branches in 6 seconds versus 16 seconds for the gas unit.

Reach and positioning are where this tool earns its place on the trailer. Total length with the kitted XC8.0 battery is 87", and the cutting head articulates through 270 degrees with 12 cutting positions and 1 storage position. Angle the head down to square up hedge tops, straight for the sides, or fold it for transport. A 5-position rotating handle lets you keep a natural grip no matter how the head is set, and the bail handle and padded grip give you multiple hand positions for better control and less fatigue.

Runtime is solid for professional routes. Milwaukee rates the XC8.0 battery at about 50 minutes of constant detailed shaping on branches up to 1/4", or about 35 minutes of overgrowth trimming on branches up to 3/4". Swap to an M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE HD12.0 and Milwaukee rates it at about 75 and 60 minutes for the same work. REDLINK PLUS Intelligence manages communication between the tool and battery to protect against overloading and overheating.

Jobsite practicality was not an afterthought. The built-in blade tip guard keeps the blade tip from damaging siding, fences, and the blade itself when you work close to a structure. Milwaukee also rates the trimmer at 83 dB(A) versus 92 dB(A) for the 24cc gas comparison unit, which makes a real difference for crews working early mornings or around occupied buildings. Tool-only weight is 12 lbs, or 14.4 lbs with the XC8.0 battery installed.

The trimmer runs on the Milwaukee M18 battery platform, which Milwaukee says includes more than 275 solutions. If your crew already runs M18 blowers, string trimmers, or saws, the XC8.0 and rapid charger in this kit move right into the rotation.

Who should buy it? Landscape maintenance crews, property managers, grounds teams, and homeowners with tall or wide hedges who want gas-level reach without the mixing, pull-starting, or noise. If you already own M18 FORGE batteries, the bare Milwaukee 3012-20 is the tool-only version.

Power Through Woody Growth

A 1" blade gap and a brushless motor mean thick, woody growth doesn't stall the blades. You spend less time switching tools and more time finishing the property.

• Cuts branches up to 1" thick
• 24" double-sided, dual-sharpened blades
• 3,500 strokes per minute

Faster Cuts at Full Reach

With 87" of total length, the trimmer reaches hedge tops from the ground. Milwaukee's testing shows it cuts faster than a leading 24cc gas pole trimmer.

• 87" total length with XC8.0 battery
• 6 seconds versus 16 seconds through twenty 3/4" branches in Milwaukee testing

Set the Head for the Cut

The articulating head and rotating handle let you shape hedges, grasses, and shrubs at awkward angles with clean, even cuts. It shares the M18 battery platform with much of Milwaukee's outdoor power equipment line.

• 270 degrees of articulation, 12 cutting positions, 1 storage position
• 5-position rotating handle
• Bail handle and padded grip

Pro Tip

For flat hedge tops, angle the head so the blade runs level while the pole rests at a comfortable angle across your body, then walk the length of the hedge. Rotate the handle to match so your wrists stay straight instead of fighting the pole.
