Overview

The Milwaukee 2918-20 M18 FUEL 1-3/4 in. SDS MAX Rotary Hammer w/ ONE-KEY is a cordless heavy-duty concrete drilling and chipping tool built for serious masonry work. This is a rotary hammer designed for large diameter concrete drilling and heavy material removal. Model Number: 2918-20. If you need SDS Max power without dragging cords, generators, or extension leads around the site, this is the kind of tool that earns its keep fast.

Milwaukee positions this model as its hardest hitting and fastest drilling option in its class, and the numbers back up why it matters on the job. With 11 ft-lbs of impact energy, 347 RPM, and 2,625 BPM, this tool is set up for demanding anchor drilling, through-holes, demolition prep, and chipping work in concrete. That combination is what helps it keep moving in large holes and tough aggregate instead of feeling like it is just making noise.

The M18 FUEL platform also matters here. The POWERSTATE brushless motor and REDLINK PLUS intelligence are there for more than branding. In practical terms, the motor gives the rotary hammer the muscle needed for large SDS Max work, while the electronics help protect the tool from overload, overheating, and over-discharge. When you are leaning on a tool this hard, those protections are not filler specs. They are what help the tool stay productive under real use instead of shutting down early or cooking itself.

Control is a big part of why this model stands out. Heavy rotary hammers can get away from you when the bit binds, especially in rebar or when drilling awkward positions. Milwaukee includes AUTOSTOP enhanced kickback control to reduce over-rotation in a bind-up. That is the feature you appreciate when the bit catches unexpectedly and the tool tries to twist. It is also equipped with an AVS anti-vibration system, which matters when you are chipping for extended periods or drilling multiple holes in a day. Less vibration means less fatigue, and less fatigue usually means better accuracy and better pace.

The design is aimed at heavy-duty users, not occasional punch-list work. It uses a drop motor handle layout, a 1-3/4 inch SDS Max chuck, forward and reverse, multiple speed settings, and a 12-position chisel adjustment. Those details make the tool more adaptable than a basic hammer. The speed settings help when you need better control at startup or when you are working around finished surfaces. The 12-position chisel adjustment gives you more freedom to keep the bit at the right angle for scaling, trenching, and removal work instead of constantly repositioning your body.

Milwaukee also made this tool more useful on managed jobsites. VACLINK wireless dust control allows compatible dust extractors or vacuums to activate directly from the tool, which helps when you are trying to keep silica dust under control during indoor concrete drilling. ONE-KEY compatibility adds tracking and inventory management, which is a real advantage for contractors running multiple crews or trying to reduce tool loss. Those are not novelty features on a premium rotary hammer. They solve actual jobsite problems.

As an M18 tool, it fits into Milwaukee's M18 battery system, which is a big deal if you are already invested in that platform. You get cordless mobility without starting over on batteries and chargers. This version is sold as a tool only, so it makes the most sense for users who already have M18 packs and charging covered. Bare-tool buyers are usually the right buyers for this class of tool anyway.

This model is best suited for concrete contractors, general contractors, remodelers, facility maintenance teams, and trades working regularly in masonry or structural concrete. It is also a strong fit for crews that need one cordless SDS Max rotary hammer that can drill large holes, chip effectively, and still offer modern control and fleet management features. If your work is mostly small anchor holes, it is probably more hammer than you need. If your work regularly involves heavy drilling and chipping, this is exactly the class of tool you want.

Pro Tip

When you switch from drilling to chipping, take a second to use the 12-position chisel adjustment so the bit sits at the angle you actually want before you start. It sounds small, but on wall and floor removal work it saves a lot of wrist strain and keeps the chisel working instead of skittering.
