Overview

The Milwaukee 2904-20 M18 FUEL 1/2 in. Hammer Drill/Driver is a cordless hammer drill/driver built for trade pros who need one drill that can handle daily drilling, heavy fastening, and masonry work without stepping up to a bigger, clumsier tool. This is a hammer drill/driver designed for drilling, driving, and hammer drilling in wood, metal, brick, block, and concrete. Model Number: 2904-20. It runs on the Milwaukee M18 battery platform and comes as a bare tool, so it is a strong fit for users already invested in M18 batteries and chargers.

The big story here is output. Milwaukee rates this drill at 1,400 in-lbs of torque with a top no-load speed of 2,100 RPM, which puts it in serious work territory for large-diameter holes, heavy structural screws, and repeated drilling in dense material. Milwaukee also calls out the ability to run a 2-9/16 inch self-feed bit through engineered lumber, which tells you exactly where this tool sits: not light-duty homeowner stuff, but real framing, rough-in, and install work where the drill gets pushed hard.

Just as important, Milwaukee kept the body compact. At 6.95 inches long, the Milwaukee 2904-20 M18 FUEL 1/2 in. Hammer Drill/Driver is easier to get into stud bays, mechanical rooms, cabinet interiors, and overhead positions than larger high-torque drills. That shorter head length also helps with balance and fatigue over a long day, especially when you are drilling above shoulder height or working from a ladder where every extra inch and ounce starts to matter.

The drivetrain and chuck setup are built for jobsite abuse. You get a POWERSTATE brushless motor, a 2-speed gearbox, a 16-position mechanical clutch for controlled fastening, and an all-metal ratcheting 1/2 inch chuck with carbide teeth. In plain terms, that means better bit grip, better durability, and more confidence when you are swapping between twist bits, spade bits, masonry bits, and larger accessories that can expose weak chucks in a hurry.

Milwaukee also gave this drill some real safety and jobsite practicality. AutoStop control mode is there to help limit over-rotation during a bind-up, and there is a dedicated indicator light to show when a protection event occurs. REDLINK PLUS intelligence helps manage overload, overheating, and over-discharge, which matters when the tool is being run hard instead of just lightly used around the house. An LED work light, reversible operation, side handle support, and an all-metal belt clip round out the everyday-use details that make a drill easier to live with on site.

Because this is an M18 tool, compatibility is a real advantage. If you already run Milwaukee M18 batteries, this bare tool drops into that lineup without adding another charger or battery platform to the truck. Pairing it with REDLITHIUM batteries makes the most sense for users who want runtime that matches the tool's output. That keeps this drill useful as both a primary heavy-duty drill and a go-to hammer drill for service calls, rough-ins, and punch work.

This model makes the most sense for electricians, plumbers, HVAC installers, remodelers, framers, and general contractors who need one compact cordless drill that can cross over between drilling holes, driving fasteners, and setting anchors. Serious DIY users will appreciate it too, but the spec sheet and feature set are clearly aimed at people who make their living with a drill in hand. If your current drill struggles with larger holes or feels too bulky in tight spaces, this is the kind of upgrade you notice on day one.
