Overview

The Milwaukee 2840-20 M18 FUEL 2 Gallon Compact Quiet Compressor is a cordless air compressor built for pros who want pneumatic performance without dragging a corded unit around the jobsite. This is a cordless air compressor designed for finish nailing and light pneumatic fastening on interior jobsites. Model Number: 2840-20. If you do trim, punch work, remodel work, or room-to-room installs, this tool is built to make setup faster and the job quieter.

The headline feature is noise. Milwaukee rates it at 68 dB(A), which is unusually quiet for a portable compressor. On real jobs, that means less disruption in finished homes, tenant spaces, and remodel environments where you're working close to clients, homeowners, or other trades. It also makes a difference for your own fatigue level over a full day, especially on interior work where compressor noise tends to bounce off walls and floors.

Performance is aimed at practical finish work, not trying to replace a big shop compressor. The 2 gallon tank, 135 PSI max pressure, and 1.2 SCFM at 90 PSI are matched to common trim and brad nailing tasks. Milwaukee also calls out up to 1,600 18 gauge brad nails per charge, which gives you a useful runtime benchmark instead of a vague claim. For a carpenter or remodeler, that is the kind of number that tells you whether the tool can actually carry its weight on the truck.

The overall design is clearly jobsite-driven. At 16.25 inches long, 18.625 inches wide, and 10.625 inches high, the compressor stays compact enough for transport and storage, while the protective frame helps it handle everyday loading, unloading, and movement around the site. The low-profile, stackable layout also makes more sense than a bulky upright design when space in the van or trailer is tight.

Milwaukee uses a POWERSTATE brushless motor, an oil-free pump, and a single-turn regulator. In plain terms, that gives you a setup that is easier to live with on the job. Brushless motor design supports longer motor life and strong cordless efficiency. The oil-free pump cuts maintenance compared to older compressor styles. The single-turn regulator makes pressure changes quicker when you need to dial the tool in instead of fiddling around every time you switch tasks.

Because it runs on the M18 battery platform, this compressor makes the most sense for users already invested in Milwaukee cordless tools. It is compatible with all Milwaukee M18 REDLITHIUM batteries, so you can swap packs instead of hunting for power. That matters on remodels, trim installs, and service work where outlet access is inconsistent or extension cords just slow everything down. This listing is a bare tool, so batteries and charger are not included.

Who should buy it? Carpenters, remodelers, finish crews, and serious DIY users who want a portable quiet compressor for interior fastening work. If your priority is mobility, lower noise, and staying inside one battery platform, this is a smart fit. If you need high-air-demand output for larger framing or continuous shop use, you will want a bigger compressor. But for trim, brad nailing, and punch list work, this one is built exactly where it needs to be.

Portable Without the Cord

For room-to-room work, the biggest advantage is simple: grab it and go. The compact frame, cordless power source, and stackable layout make this a much easier compressor to move than a traditional corded unit.

• Compact hand-carried design
• Low-profile body stores easier in trucks, vans, and job boxes

Made for Everyday Trim Duty

This is not trying to be everything. It is sized and tuned for practical pneumatic fastening work where mobility and convenience matter more than feeding a high-demand air tool all day.

• Up to 1,600 18 gauge brad nails per charge
• 135 PSI max pressure with 1.2 SCFM at 90 PSI

Simple Controls, Low Maintenance

The details are what make it easier to own. The single-turn regulator speeds up adjustments, and the oil-free pump means one less maintenance chore to think about.
