Key Features

Compact, Useful Capacity The 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch cut capacity gives this compact band saw enough room for conduit, strut, threaded rod, and small pipe without stepping up to a bigger, heavier tool. Less Fatigue Overhead At 6 lb, this Milwaukee portable band saw is built for one-handed work and overhead cuts where a full-size deep cut saw starts wearing you out fast. Brushless Jobsite Control The POWERSTATE brushless motor, variable speed trigger, LED work light, and integrated blade covers all work together to make fast, controlled cuts in metal while keeping the tool easy to manage in tight spots.

Overview

The Milwaukee 2529-20 M12 FUEL Compact Band Saw is a cordless compact band saw built for electricians, mechanical contractors, plumbers, HVAC techs, and anyone who cuts metal on the move. This is a compact band saw designed for cutting conduit, strut, threaded rod, pipe, and other jobsite materials with one hand when needed. Model Number: 2529-20. If you want a lighter saw that still gives you real capacity, this one is aimed right at that gap.

What matters most here is the balance between size and usable cutting ability. Milwaukee gives this saw a 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch cutting capacity, which is enough for a lot of the material that fills a service truck or job cart every day. It is also built around a POWERSTATE brushless motor, and Milwaukee specifically calls out fast cutting speed in Unistrut. That makes a difference when you're making repeated cuts and trying to keep the job moving instead of fighting a slow saw.

This tool is clearly set up for real-world handling, not just bench specs. The integrated blade covers support one-handed use, which matters when you're working overhead, on a ladder, or in a crowded mechanical room. The light 6 lb weight helps there too. A heavier portable band saw can be fine on a cart or stand, but when you're making repeated cuts above shoulder height, every pound starts to count.

Milwaukee also added practical details that help on the job instead of just sounding good on paper. The variable speed trigger lets you ease into a cut and match the pace to the material, which helps with control on steel, aluminum, PVC, and plastic. The LED work light helps when you're cutting in shadowed corners, above ceilings, or in utility spaces where the lighting is never as good as it should be. No-tool blade change also keeps downtime down when you need to swap out a worn blade.

On the durability side, this saw uses Milwaukee's Jobsite Armor technology, described as a proprietary composite material with crush zone barriers for rugged protection. That is the kind of feature that matters for a portable metal-cutting saw because these tools get set on concrete, tossed in gang boxes, hung on carts, and moved all day. The built-in rafter hook is another small but useful touch. Between cuts, you can hang it on a ladder, pipe stand, cart, or similar support instead of setting it on the floor or carrying it in your hand.

The Milwaukee 2529-20 M12 FUEL Compact Band Saw is fully compatible with the Milwaukee M12 system, which is a big deal if you already run M12 batteries and chargers. This is a tool-only configuration, so no battery or charger is included. For current Milwaukee users, that keeps cost down and makes this an easy add-on for metal cutting and service work. Milwaukee also notes compatibility with a conduit reamer attachment that mounts to the back of the tool, though that attachment is sold separately.

Who should buy it? If your work involves conduit, strut, all-thread, metal pipe, or repeated overhead cuts, this is the kind of saw that earns its spot fast. It is especially well suited for electrical, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and general construction service work where portability matters as much as raw size. If you need maximum deep-cut capacity for large stock every day, step up to a larger band saw. If you need a lighter, faster-grabbing tool for common metal cutting jobs, this one makes a lot of sense.

Tool Nut's Take

Milwaukee 2529-20 M12 FUEL Compact Band Saw for fast service work

This is the kind of saw that makes a lot of sense for tradespeople who cut metal all day but do not want to drag around a bigger deep-cut model for every job.

• Who it's for: Electricians, HVAC installers, plumbers, and service pros cutting conduit, strut, threaded rod, and light pipe in tight spaces or overhead.
• Why it stands out: You get a real 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch capacity, brushless power, one-handed usability, and M12 platform convenience in a 6 lb package.
