Key Features

Fast Framing PowerThe Makita-built brushless motor runs at 6,000 RPM, so this circular saw keeps cut speed up in demanding framing and general construction work without dragging through the cut. Single-Pass CapacityWith 2-3/8 in. cutting capacity at 90 degrees, it handles 3x material in one pass. That means fewer flip-and-finish cuts when you are moving through thicker stock. Rail and AWS ReadyThe guide rail compatible base works with optional guide rails without an adapter, and AWS capability lets the saw communicate wirelessly with a compatible dust extractor when the optional transmitter is added.

Overview

The Makita GSH02Z 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 7-1/4" Circular Saw is a cordless sidewinder saw built for high-demand cutting on the jobsite. This is a circular saw designed for framing, roofing, forming, and general construction cutting. Model Number: GSH02Z. It is a bare tool, so it is aimed at users already on the Makita 40V max XGT platform or those building into that system and wanting a full-size saw with real jobsite capacity.

What makes this saw matter is the combination of speed and depth. The brushless motor delivers 6,000 RPM for fast cutting performance, and the 2-3/8 in. cutting capacity at 90 degrees gives you the ability to cut 3x material in a single pass. On a framing crew or during remodel work, that translates to fewer passes, cleaner workflow, and less time wrestling thick stock with an underpowered cordless saw.

Makita also built in Automatic Torque Drive Technology, which adjusts cutting speed under load for optimum cutting performance. In plain terms, the saw reacts when the cut gets tougher instead of feeling like it falls on its face. That matters when you move from easier sheet goods into denser framing lumber or when the blade starts seeing more resistance midway through a cut.

The saw is set up for more than basic rip and cross cuts. It has a 0 to 56 degree bevel range with positive stops at 22.5 degrees, 45 degrees, and 56 degrees, plus max cutting capacities of 1-11/16 in. at 45 degrees and 1-5/8 in. at 48 degrees. If you are cutting roof angles, bevel work, or form material, those stops save setup time and help you get repeatable cuts without sneaking up on every adjustment.

From a build standpoint, Makita kept the weight down without making the tool feel cheap. The die-cast magnesium base, blade guard, and blade cover are there for a reason: you get durability with less weight to carry around all day. The saw measures only 13-1/4 in. long, which helps when you are working off sawhorses, climbing staging, or cutting in tighter spots where bulk gets in the way.

Jobsite practicality is strong here too. An electric brake helps the blade stop quickly between cuts, which keeps work moving and makes repositioning faster. Dual L.E.D. lights with preglow and afterglow help you track the cut line in dim spaces, early starts, or interior work. Makita's Extreme Protection Technology is built in to improve dust and water resistance in harsh conditions by channeling water and dust away from key internal components.

System compatibility is one of the bigger reasons to buy this model. The GSH02Z is compatible with Makita 40V max XGT lithium-ion batteries, and the XGT platform uses digital communication to monitor and protect against overload, over-discharge, and overheating. The base is guide rail compatible and works with optional guide rails without needing an adapter, which is a real advantage for straight finish-sensitive cuts. It is also AWS capable, meaning it can wirelessly communicate with a compatible dust extractor when used with the optional Auto-start Wireless Transmitter, part number 198901-5.

Who should buy it? Framers, builders, roofers, form workers, and serious remodelers who want a cordless circular saw that is not giving up capacity or cut speed to stay cordless. If you are already on XGT, this one makes a lot of sense. If you need a compact homeowner saw for occasional shelf projects, it is more saw than you probably need. But if your circular saw earns its keep every day, this is the kind of model that saves time in real work, not just on paper.
