Low Vibration BuildThe ultra-low profile design and reduced vibration help keep the Makita random orbit sander steady in your hand, which matters when you are chasing a clean, swirl-free finish over longer sanding sessions. Cleaner Work AreaThrough-the-pad dust collection, a built-in dust port, and Makita vacuum compatibility help keep dust under control, which means better visibility on the work and less cleanup after.

Overview

The Makita GOB01CZ 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 6" Random Orbit Sander is a cordless finish sander built for users who want pneumatic-style performance without dragging around an air hose or dealing with a cord. This is a random orbit sander designed for finish sanding and surface preparation on wood and similar materials. Model Number: GOB01CZ. As a bare tool, it is aimed at users already on the Makita XGT platform or anyone building a 40V max sanding setup around high-output cordless tools.

What makes this sander matter on the job is the mix of control and output. The pad runs at 6,000 to 10,000 OPM, and the five-speed power selection lets you tune the tool to the work instead of forcing one speed for everything. That matters when you move from flattening filler and sealer to final finish sanding, where too much speed can leave extra marks and too little speed wastes time. Makita also uses a 3/16" orbit diameter, which is a sweet spot for a clean finish while still keeping material removal productive.

The design is clearly built around handling and precision. Makita calls out an ultra-low profile body, and you can see why that matters: the lower your hand sits over the pad, the easier it is to keep the sander planted and avoid tipping at the edge of a panel. The off-board battery setup keeps bulk and weight away from the sanding head, which helps the tool feel more compact where it actually contacts the work. For anyone doing finish work, cabinet panels, trim, or broad flat surfaces, that layout is not a gimmick. It gives you better control where it counts.

Comfort is another big reason to look at this model. Makita rates it at up to 41% less vibration, with listed vibration at 3.2 m/s. That matters on longer runs because less vibration usually means less hand fatigue and better consistency near the end of the day. The lock-on slide trigger also helps during extended sanding passes, and soft start plus constant speed control keep the pad from jumping at startup and help it hold pace when the load changes.

Dust control is handled the way it should be on a serious finish sander. The GOB01CZ uses an efficient through-the-pad collection system, includes a dust bag, and connects easily to the Makita vacuum system. If you sand indoors, in finished spaces, or in a shop where cleanup time costs money, this is a practical advantage, not a small extra. The tool is also AWS capable, which means it can communicate wirelessly with a compatible dust extractor when used with the optional Auto-start Wireless Transmitter, part number 198901-5.

On runtime, Makita states up to 48 minutes of continuous sanding with one 40V XGT 4.0Ah battery, with up to 260 linear feet per charge. Battery and charger are sold separately, so this is best for users already invested in Makita 40V max XGT batteries. The XGT platform also brings the usual system benefits: digital communication that monitors overload, over-discharge, and overheating, plus a battery and tool interface built for high-demand cordless applications.

Bottom line: this is a strong fit for woodworkers, finish carpenters, remodelers, cabinet installers, and serious DIY users who want a cordless 6-inch random orbit sander that does not feel underpowered. If you want a light, controlled sander for finish sanding, dust-managed work, and jobsite mobility, this one makes a lot of sense. If you do not already own Makita XGT batteries and charger, factor that in up front because this version is tool only.

Makita GOB01CZ 40V max XGT Brushless Cordless 6" Random Orbit Sander Control That Helps You Finish Cleaner

This sander is built for finish quality, not just raw sanding speed. The low-profile layout keeps your hand close to the work surface so it is easier to guide the pad flat and avoid gouging edges or rocking the tool on wider panels.

• Variable speed range: 6,000 to 10,000 OPM
• 3/16 inch orbit diameter helps deliver a swirl-free finish

Less Bulk at the Pad Means Better Precision

The off-board battery port is one of the smartest parts of this design. By moving battery weight away from the sanding head, Makita keeps the working end smaller and easier to control, especially when you are sanding vertical surfaces, tight sections, or detailed finished work.

• Net weight without battery: 2.2 lbs
• Overall length: 9-3/4 inches

Set It Up for Dust-Controlled Sanding

Good sanding is not just about the scratch pattern. Dust control helps keep the abrasive cutting, keeps the surface visible, and cuts down on cleanup. This tool is set up to work with the included dust bag or connect into Makita dust extraction for a cleaner process.

• Through-the-pad dust collection with built-in dust port
• AWS capable for wireless tool-to-extractor communication with optional transmitter
