Key Features

Built for Rebar This SDS-Plus rebar cutter drill bit is made specifically for drilling through concrete-embedded rebar, so you spend less time fighting steel once you hit it. Clears Debris Fast Dust evacuation zones, a large flute, and a core extraction port move waste out of the hole quickly so the cutter keeps working instead of packing up. Longer Bit Life European tungsten carbide teeth and a heat-treated steel shank are there for one reason: better durability when you are drilling demanding holes in reinforced concrete.

Overview

The Makita E-12485 3/8" x 8" SDS-Plus Rebar Cutter Drill Bit is a specialty drilling accessory for rotary hammers. This is a rebar cutter drill bit designed for drilling through concrete-embedded rebar. Model Number: E-12485. If you are working reinforced concrete and standard masonry bits slow down or wear out once they hit steel, this bit is built to keep the job moving with faster drilling and more precise hole placement.

Makita designed this bit around the real problem with reinforced concrete: the transition from concrete into embedded steel. The alternating cutter tooth geometry is there to improve cutting efficiency, which matters when you need to keep a hole on location instead of wandering once the bit contacts rebar. In practical terms, that means less wasted time, less fighting the tool, and a cleaner path when you are drilling anchor holes or other layout-sensitive work.

Debris control is another big part of why this bit stands out. The dust evacuation zones and large flute design help move material out of the hole fast, and the core extraction port makes it easier to remove waste material. That matters because packed debris kills drilling speed. A bit that clears itself better keeps cutting instead of rubbing, which helps productivity and reduces unnecessary heat buildup.

On the durability side, Makita uses high-quality European tungsten carbide teeth paired with a heat-treated steel shank. That combination is aimed at longer service life in tough drilling conditions. For anyone boring into reinforced concrete regularly, material quality matters more than marketing language. Better tooth durability and a strong shank usually mean more consistent performance and less downtime swapping out worn accessories.

The SDS-Plus shank is built for use with SDS-Plus rotary hammers, and Makita specifically calls out use in Rotation Only mode for drilling concrete-embedded rebar. The micro-hammering shank design helps reduce accidental bit damage from the tool's hammer mode. That is an important detail, because this is not a general-purpose demolition accessory. It is a purpose-built rebar drilling bit meant to be used correctly for this exact application.

At 3/8 inch diameter and 8 inches overall length, the Makita E-12485 3/8" x 8" SDS-Plus Rebar Cutter Drill Bit fits jobs where you need a relatively narrow reinforced-concrete hole with SDS-Plus compatibility. It makes the most sense for concrete contractors, electricians, mechanical trades, general contractors, and serious remodelers who regularly drill anchors or pass-through holes in reinforced concrete and need a bit that is made for hitting rebar instead of hoping to survive it.

Purpose-Built for Reinforced Concrete Drilling

If your work regularly takes you into reinforced concrete, using the right accessory is the difference between getting through the hole cleanly and burning time on a bit that is not made for steel contact.

• 3/8 inch diameter for smaller anchor and concrete drilling applications
• 8 inch overall length for added reach in rotary hammer drilling tasks
• SDS-Plus shank for use with SDS-Plus rotary hammers
• Engineered for drilling in concrete-embedded rebar only

Pro Tip

When you hit embedded rebar, keep this bit in Rotation Only mode as Makita recommends. That protects the cutter head, helps the flute clear debris properly, and gives the bit the best shot at staying productive instead of getting chewed up.
