Overview

The Knipex 9K 00 80 05 US 3 Pc Cobra Water Pump Pliers Set is a three-piece water pump pliers set built for gripping pipe, nuts, fittings, and irregular shapes with more control and less slip. This is a water pump pliers set designed for gripping and turning pipe, hex fittings, and fasteners in plumbing, mechanical, and service work. Model Number: 9K 00 80 05 US. If you want a set that covers tight spaces and larger work without carrying a full drawer of pliers, this is the kind of setup that earns a permanent spot in the truck.

What matters most here is how the Cobra design works in real use. The push-button adjustment lets you size the jaws right on the workpiece, so you are not guessing at the right opening before you clamp down. Fine adjustment helps the pliers sit where you want them, and the self-locking jaw action on pipes and nuts means less squeezing once the tool bites. That saves hand fatigue, especially when you are breaking loose stubborn fittings or holding a part with one hand while you work with the other.

Knipex builds these from chrome vanadium electric steel that is forged and oil-hardened, which is exactly what you want in pliers that are supposed to hold their teeth and keep their shape under load. The gripping surfaces use specially hardened teeth rated at about 61 HRC, so they wear slowly and keep grabbing reliably instead of smoothing over after repeated use. The box-joint construction adds stability through a double guide, which helps the jaws track straight and reduces the loose, sloppy feel cheaper pliers develop over time.

This set includes three of the most useful Cobra sizes: 87 02 180 at 7-1/4 inches, 87 02 250 at 10 inches, and 87 02 300 at 12 inches. That size spread is practical. The smaller pliers are easier to work into cabinets, mechanical rooms, and other tight access spots. The mid-size tool is the everyday grab for general service work. The 12 inch pliers give you the reach and leverage for bigger fittings, with working capacity up to 2-3/4 inches on round pipe. Instead of forcing one pliers to do every job badly, you get the right size for the task.

Knipex also addressed day-to-day usability. The multi-component comfort handles improve grip when your hands are wet or when you are working in awkward positions. A pinch guard helps protect fingers during adjustment, and the hinge bolt is designed to stay caught securely so you do not get accidental shifting under load. Those are small details until you use the tool all day, and then they are the difference between a tool that feels sorted out and one that feels cheap.

For the buyer, this set makes the most sense for plumbers, HVAC techs, maintenance crews, mechanics, and general contractors who regularly deal with pipe, valves, couplings, locknuts, and mixed-shape hardware. Serious DIY users will also appreciate it, but this is not a throwaway homeowner set. It is a professional-grade Knipex Cobra pliers kit made in Germany for people who want faster adjustment, dependable bite, and three usable sizes instead of one compromise tool.

Grip Fittings Without Fighting the Tool

These pliers are built to hold on when round pipe and smooth fittings usually make other tools slip. The self-locking jaw action helps the tool stay planted, which means more turning force goes into the fitting instead of into your grip.

• Self-locking on pipes and nuts for low hand force and less slipping
• Serrated gripping surfaces bite into round, square, hex, and flat workpieces

Adjust Fast and Dial In the Fit

The push-button adjustment is one of the main reasons pros stick with Cobra pliers. You can size the jaws directly on the part, make fine changes quickly, and get a comfortable handle width instead of settling for a loose or over-tight position.

• 18, 25, and 30 adjustment positions across the three included pliers
• Reliable hinge bolt catch helps prevent unintentional shifting

Knipex 9K 00 80 05 US 3 Pc Cobra Water Pump Pliers Set Covers More Jobs

• Maximum round pipe capacities are 1-1/2 in, 2 in, and 2-3/4 in

Pro Tip

Use the smallest Cobra in the set that still fits the fitting. You will usually get better access and control, and the self-locking jaws do the holding so you are not wasting grip strength on a larger pliers than the job needs.
