Key Features

One Tool, Many Sizes The Knipex 86 03 300 Pliers Wrench replaces a full set of open-end wrenches up to 2 1/2 inches. That means less weight in the bag and faster setup when you are moving between different fastener sizes. Smooth Jaw Grip Parallel smooth jaws apply even pressure without chewing up plated fittings or finished surfaces. If you work on chrome, soft hardware, or visible trim, that matters right away. Fast Push-Button Adjustment The push-button adjustment and ratchet-style action let you set the opening on the workpiece and move quickly without constantly repositioning. It is a real time-saver on repeated tightening and loosening work.

Overview

The Knipex 86 03 300 Pliers Wrench is a 12 inch hand tool built to combine the function of adjustable pliers and a smooth-jaw wrench in one package. This is a pliers wrench designed for gripping, holding, pressing, bending, and tightening or loosening bolted connections without damaging finished surfaces. Model Number: 86 03 300. For plumbers, mechanics, installers, and remodelers who work around plated fittings or mixed fastener sizes, this tool solves a common problem: getting a strong grip without tearing up the part.

The big selling point here is capacity and versatility. Knipex rates this tool to replace a full set of inch and metric open-end wrenches up to 2 1/2 inches, with 24 adjustment positions and a laser-etched scale in metric and inch markings. In practical use, that means you can dial in the jaw opening before you grab the workpiece, then make quick adjustments as you move from one nut, fitting, or flat-sided part to the next. If you do service work, punch-list work, or install work where you never know what size hardware is coming next, that flexibility saves time.

What separates this hand tool from standard adjustable pliers is the jaw design. The jaws are smooth and parallel, so pressure is spread evenly across the flats instead of biting into the corners. Knipex also calls out zero-backlash jaw surface pressure, which is why these are a go-to choice for plated fittings, chrome trim, locknuts, and other parts you do not want scarred up. It gives you the holding power you need without leaving the usual tooth marks behind.

The 10-to-1 lever transmission matters too. That ratio gives you strong gripping power without feeling like you have to crush the handles with both hands. On the job, that shows up as better control when you are pressing parts together, holding small assemblies steady, breaking edges, or tightening hardware in tight access areas. The box-joint design and reliable hinge-bolt catch also help keep the jaws from shifting unexpectedly once you are set on the workpiece.

From a build standpoint, this Knipex pliers wrench is made from chrome vanadium electric steel that is forged and oil-hardened, with a chrome-plated finish and plastic-coated handles. That combination gives you the wear resistance expected from a pro-grade Knipex hand tool, while the plastic coating keeps the grip straightforward and comfortable for all-day use. The narrower jaw profile is useful when clearance is limited and a conventional wrench head is just too bulky to get in cleanly.

This tool is not insulated for electrical work, so it is not the right choice where insulated handles are required. What it is built for is controlled mechanical grip on finished parts, repeated adjustment on mixed-size fasteners, and all the general shop and field tasks where a standard wrench set and a pair of pliers would normally both come out. It also works well for pressing and bending tasks, which gives it more range than a typical adjustable wrench.

If you are the kind of user who wants one hand tool that earns its keep every day, this Knipex pliers wrench makes a strong case. It is especially useful for plumbing trim-out, equipment service, mechanical assembly, bike and automotive work, and general repair where surface protection and quick size changes matter. Serious DIYers will appreciate the versatility, but this is really aimed at tradespeople who want one tool that covers a lot of ground without feeling like a compromise.

Pro Tip

Use the laser scale to preset the jaw opening just a hair over the fastener size before you get on the workpiece. That makes the first bite faster and helps the smooth jaws land square on the flats instead of hunting for position.
