Push-Button Adjustment The Knipex 83 61 010 Rapid Adjust Swedish Pipe Wrench-S-Type lets you set jaw opening right on the workpiece with a button instead of fighting a slower adjustment system. That saves time when you are moving between different pipe sizes and fittings. Self-Locking Grip The S-type jaw and opposing offset teeth bite down and stay put with less hand force. You get a stronger hold on round stock and plumbing fittings without constant readjustment. Built for Hard Use Forged chrome vanadium electric steel, hardened handles, and induction-hardened teeth give this pipe wrench the kind of wear resistance you want for repeated jobsite use. It is built for real torque, not light-duty occasional work.

Overview

The Knipex 83 61 010 Rapid Adjust Swedish Pipe Wrench-S-Type is a 13-inch Swedish pattern pipe wrench built for gripping and turning pipe, fittings, and other round workpieces. This is a pipe wrench designed for plumbing, mechanical service, and pipe fastening work. Model number 83 61 010. If you want the holding power of a traditional Swedish pattern wrench but with faster, more precise setup, this is the one to look at.

The big selling point here is the rapid adjustment. Instead of walking the jaw in slowly, you can set the opening width at the push of a button directly on the workpiece. On the job, that matters when you are bouncing between threaded pipe, couplings, locknuts, and odd-size fittings. Knipex rates the maximum jaw opening for round pipe at 1 5/8 in., and the tool gives you 16 adjustment positions, so you get a broad working range without carrying a bigger wrench than necessary.

The S-type jaw geometry is there for one reason: grip. With offset teeth running in the opposite direction, this wrench creates a three-point hold on pipe and helps the tool self-lock as load increases. That means less wasted hand effort and less chance of the wrench walking off the workpiece when you lean on it. For plumbers, maintenance techs, and anyone dealing with threaded pipe or stubborn fittings, that self-locking action is the difference between controlled torque and a tool that keeps slipping.

Knipex also built this one to take abuse. The wrench is made from chrome vanadium electric steel and is forged and multi-stage oil-hardened. The teeth are induction hardened for better wear resistance, and the handles are completely hardened for maximum load capacity. In plain terms, the biting edges stay sharper longer and the body is made to handle real working force without feeling flimsy.

Jobsite comfort is handled in a practical way too. The plastic-coated handles give you a more secure grip than bare steel, and the built-in pinch guard helps protect your fingers during adjustment. At about 2.0 lbs, it has enough mass to feel solid in the hand without being oversized for everyday service calls. The I-beam handle design also helps with leverage, so you can put force into the wrench without the tool feeling awkward.

This Knipex pipe wrench is a good fit for plumbing fittings, mechanical pipe work, and even auto front-end alignment work where a strong grip on round or irregular parts matters. It is best for tradespeople and serious DIY users who want a faster alternative to a traditional Swedish pipe wrench and who care about bite, adjustment speed, and long-term durability. If your work involves repeated pipe gripping and turning, this wrench earns its keep quickly.
