Overview

The Knipex 00 31 20 V01 US 2 Pc Cobra Water Pump Pliers Set is a two-piece water pump pliers set built for gripping pipes, nuts, bolts, and irregular shapes without constant readjustment. This is a water pump pliers set designed for gripping and turning round, square, hex, and flat workpieces. Model Number: 00 31 20 V01 US. If you want one set that covers common service work, plumbing tasks, mechanical jobs, and general grab-and-turn work, this is the kind of set that earns a permanent spot in the bag.

What makes the Cobra design matter is how quickly it goes from one size to the next. Knipex uses push-button adjustment directly on the workpiece, so you are not wasting time opening and closing the pliers to hunt for the right jaw position. The fine adjustment gives you a better fit across different fastener sizes and pipe diameters, which helps the jaws sit where they should instead of riding on the corners.

The other big advantage is the self-locking action on pipes and nuts. Once the jaws are set and loaded, the pliers bite down instead of skating off the part. That means lower hand force and better control, especially when you are dealing with stubborn fittings or slick surfaces. On the job, that translates to less fatigue and less chance of rounding hardware you need to keep intact.

Knipex backs that grip with hardened teeth rated at about 61 HRC. That matters because gripping pliers live and die by tooth wear. Harder teeth hold their bite longer, so the tool stays useful over time instead of becoming a smooth-jawed frustration piece. The serrated gripping surface also helps these pliers grab a wide range of shapes, not just standard hex fasteners.

Build quality is where these stand apart from bargain pliers. The tools are made from chrome vanadium electric steel, forged, and oil-hardened for strength and long service life. The box-joint construction adds stability through a double-guide design, which helps the jaws track more securely under load. There is also a built-in pinch guard, which is a small feature until you spend a full day using pliers and realize your hands are not getting chewed up.

This set includes two of the most useful Cobra sizes: 87 01 180 at 7-1/4 inches and 87 01 250 at 10 inches. The smaller tool gives you better access in tighter spots, while the larger tool gives you more reach and a maximum working capacity up to 2 inches on round pipe. Between the two, you can cover a lot of everyday service and install work without carrying a whole drawer of slip-joint pliers.

The handles use a non-slip plastic coating for a secure feel without adding bulk, and the polished jaws with grey atramentized finish hold up well in real use. These are not insulated pliers, so they are not the choice for live electrical work. They are the right choice for tradespeople and serious DIY users who need dependable gripping performance, fast adjustment, and a jaw design that works across different shapes instead of forcing you into one specific application.

If your work involves plumbing connections, mechanical service, general maintenance, equipment repair, or jobsite carry tools, this Knipex pliers set makes sense. It is especially good for users who are tired of adjustable pliers that slip, flex, or need too much squeeze pressure to do basic work.

Grab More Than Just Pipe

This set is not limited to one type of fastener. The jaw shape and serrated teeth are built to hold round pipe, hex nuts, square stock, and flat material without constantly swapping tools.

• Designed to grip round, square, hex, and flat workpieces
• Serrated gripping surfaces improve hold under load

Dial In the Fit Fast

The push-button adjustment is one of those features you appreciate every time you use it. Set the jaw opening on the workpiece, keep moving, and avoid the usual trial-and-error that slows down basic plumbing and mechanical work.

• Push-button adjustment directly on the workpiece
• Fine adjustment helps match different sizes and hand positions

Carry Two Sizes That Actually Get Used
