Key Features

Super-Fine Finish The S1000 grit is built for refining finished surfaces, not rough sanding. That matters when you are chasing a smooth, high-gloss result on fillers, finishes, plastics, fiberglass, and solid surface material. Foam-Backed Control The foam backing helps reduce pressure marks on the work surface. You get a more forgiving sanding contact when working on delicate finish coats and curved parts. Festool Sanding Disc Fit These 5-inch hook and loop sanding discs are made to work with compatible Festool 5" (125 mm) sanders. The fit is straightforward, and the Jetstream design supports cleaner sanding and longer abrasive life when used with dust extraction.

Overview

Festool 492375 Platin 2 S1000 5-Inch Sanding Discs are extra-fine abrasive discs made for finish sanding and surface refinement. This is a sanding disc designed for high-gloss finishing on closed surface materials such as solid surface, plastics, fiberglass, fillers, and finish coats. Model number 492375. If you are at the stage where surface quality matters more than material removal, this is the kind of abrasive you reach for.

The big story here is the S1000 grit. This is not your everyday sanding disc for leveling or stripping. It is built for the finishing stages, where you are refining a surface before the final polish or dialing in a uniform scratch pattern on paint, lacquer, acrylic, or composite material. On jobs where a standard paper-backed disc can leave uneven pressure marks, the foam-backed construction helps keep the contact more forgiving and controlled.

Festool builds this Platin 2 abrasive with silicon carbide and a stearate coating. In plain terms, that combination is aimed at fine finishing where you want a sharp cutting action without loading up the disc too quickly. The stearate coating helps resist clogging and smearing, which is a real advantage on finishes and fillers that can gum up lesser abrasives fast. Less loading means more consistent scratch patterns and less time swapping discs before the job is done.

The 5" (125 mm) diameter makes these a direct fit for Festool's 5" (125 mm) sanding platform, and the hook and loop attachment keeps disc changes quick. Festool also calls out the Jetstream design for more efficient dust removal. On finish work, that matters. Better dust extraction helps keep debris from riding between the abrasive and the surface, which can reduce swirl marks, keep the work area cleaner, and stretch pad and abrasive life.

Compatibility is a real selling point if you are already in the Festool sanding lineup. These discs are suitable for the ES 125, ETS 125, ETSC 125, ETSC 2 125, and ETS EC 125. They are also compatible with the ROTEX RO 125 and other 5-inch sanders. If you already run a Festool 5" (125 mm) sander for finish prep, this abrasive gives you a purpose-built option for the final refinement stage instead of asking a general-purpose disc to do a specialty job.

This pack includes 15 discs, which makes sense for shops and finish-focused users who need repeatable results across multiple parts or panels. Furniture builders, solid surface fabricators, automotive refinishing users, marine repair techs, and anybody working on painted or composite surfaces will get the point of this product right away. It is especially useful when the surface is already close and you need control, consistency, and a finer finish than standard sanding papers usually deliver.

If your work is mostly aggressive stock removal, this is the wrong abrasive for the job. But if you are refining clear coats, finish coats, fiberglass parts, acrylics, fillers, or polished solid surface, the Festool Platin 2 line is exactly where a specialty abrasive earns its keep. It is made for the part of the process where a rough scratch pattern or a loaded disc can cost you time and redo work.

Built for Finish Work, Not Material Removal

When you are sanding painted panels, fiberglass, or other finished surfaces, the goal is controlled refinement. This abrasive is made for that stage, where the surface is already close and the next pass needs to improve the finish without creating new problems.

• S1000 grit for extra-fine sanding and surface refinement
• Ideal for finish coats, fillers, plastics, fiberglass, and solid surface material
• Foam backing helps reduce pressure on delicate finished surfaces

Cleaner Sanding, Less Loading

Fine finishing abrasives only help if they stay cutting cleanly. Festool uses silicon carbide with a stearate coating to resist clogging and smearing, so the disc keeps producing a more even finish instead of dragging built-up material across the surface.

• Silicon carbide abrasive for fine finishing work
• Stearate coating helps fight clogging on finishes and fillers
• Jetstream design supports dust removal and longer abrasive life when paired with extraction

Right Size for Festool 5" (125 mm) Sanders

This disc is sized for 5-inch sanding platforms, so it drops into the workflow for compatible Festool sanders without adapters or guesswork. The hook and loop backing also makes it easy to move through your finishing steps without slowing down.

Tool Nut's Take

Tool Nut's Take

Festool 492375 Platin 2 S1000 5-Inch Sanding Discs are for the last stretch, not the first pass

This is a specialty finish-sanding abrasive that makes sense when surface quality matters more than fast removal.

• Who it's for: Pros and serious finish-focused users working on paint, fillers, solid surface, fiberglass, acrylic, and other closed surface materials.
• Why it stands out: The foam backing, silicon carbide abrasive, and anti-loading stearate coating are all aimed at cleaner, more controlled refinement where a standard disc can leave pressure marks or load up too fast.
• Worth knowing: This is an S1000 grit finishing disc, so do not buy it expecting stock removal. It earns its keep at the point where the surface is already close and you need to improve the finish, not reshape the workpiece.
