Check Square Without a CalculatorMost tapes just measure. The FastCap PSQ-25 Square One tape measure adds a hypotenuse scale on the back of the blade, so you can confirm a corner is square by reading one number instead of running the 3-4-5 method by hand. Two Scales on One BladeThe front face reads a standard measuring scale for everyday layout work. Flip to the back and the same 25-foot blade gives you the hypotenuse scale for squaring, so you are not carrying a second tool for one job.Built for the Truck, Not the DrawerA heavy-duty rubberized case, dual top-and-bottom locking blade, built-in pencil sharpener, and erasable notepad mean this tape measure is set up to live on your belt, not in a toolbox at home.

Overview

This is a tape measure designed for fast, math-free squaring on the jobsite. The FastCap PSQ-25 Square One tape measure is a 25-foot ProCarpenter tape measure with a standard scale on the front of the blade and a dedicated hypotenuse scale on the back, built for carpenters, framers, and concrete crews who need to check square without stopping to run the 3-4-5 triangle method by hand.

Here is how the hypotenuse scale earns its keep: measure two equal legs out from the corner you are squaring, say 5 feet down one side and 5 feet down the other, mark both points, then stretch the tape between those two marks using the hypotenuse side of the blade instead of the standard side. If the number on the hypotenuse scale matches the distance you would expect for a true right angle at that leg length, the corner is square. No math, no separate square, no guessing.

The blade itself is FastCap's heavy-duty 1-inch ProCarpenter blade with high-contrast black-and-white markings, so it reads clean in low light or on a dusty jobsite. It is built into the same rugged, ergonomic rubberized case as the rest of the ProCarpenter line, with a dual locking system that locks the blade from both the top and the bottom instead of relying on a single thumb lock that can slip under load.

FastCap also carried over the ProCarpenter line's everyday features: a lever-action belt clip that snaps on and off the belt fast, a built-in pencil sharpener so you are not hunting for one in the truck, and an erasable notepad on the case for jotting down a quick measurement or cut list.

This is a good fit for framing and remodeling crews squaring walls and layouts, concrete crews squaring forms before a pour, and deck builders squaring frames: anyone who checks for square often enough that doing it with a triangle and a calculator gets old.

Pro Tip

Keep your two leg measurements equal since the hypotenuse scale is calibrated for that method specifically. If you measure 4 feet down one side and 6 feet down the other and then check the hypotenuse, the reading will not tell you anything useful. Match your legs, then trust the number.

FastCap PSQ-25: The Tape Measure That Doubles as a Framing Square

The FastCap PSQ-25 Square One tape measure solves a problem every framer and concrete crew runs into: checking square fast without hauling out a speed square or doing math in your head.

• Who it's for: Framers, remodelers, and concrete crews who check for square often enough that a dedicated hypotenuse scale actually saves time on the clock.
• Why it stands out: It's the only ProCarpenter blade style built around a squaring scale instead of just a standard or metric read, so you get a real tape measure and a squaring tool in one case.
• Worth knowing: The hypotenuse trick only works if your two legs are equal, so treat this as a fast square-check on layouts and forms, not a replacement for a full framing square on every task.

Common Questions

• How does the hypotenuse scale actually work? Measure two equal legs from the corner you are checking, mark them, then read the distance between the marks on the reverse hypotenuse scale. If that reading matches the expected hypotenuse for your leg length, the corner is square.
• Is the scale metric or standard? This model reads in standard (imperial) measurements only, on both the front scale and the reverse hypotenuse scale.
• What's the blade size? A 25-foot, 1-inch-wide blade, the same heavy-duty blade used across FastCap's ProCarpenter tape measure line.
• Does it have a belt clip? Yes, a lever-action belt clip is built into the case for fast on-and-off attachment.
