Key Features

One Bit, More Metals This Diablo Metal Demon twist drill bit is built to handle mild steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and sheet metal, so you are not swapping bit types every time the material changes. Runs Cooler, Lasts Longer The Thermal Shield protective coating and optimized flute design help clear chips fast and keep heat down, which matters when you are drilling metal and trying to avoid burning up small bits. Clean Starts A 130 degree split point tip helps the bit start where you put it with less wandering, which means faster layout-to-hole accuracy on stainless, sheet metal, and general steel work.

Overview

The Diablo DMD18JP2 Metal Demon 1/8 in. High Speed Steel Drill Bits for Mild, Hardened and Stainless Steels is a 1/8 inch twist drill bit set designed for drilling clean, accurate holes in metal. Model Number: DMD18JP2. This is a twist drill bit designed for metal drilling in mild steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and sheet metal, with added flexibility for wood and plastic when the job calls for it. If you keep running into mixed materials and do not want a separate bit for every one of them, this set is aimed right at that problem.

What matters here is not just the size, but how the bit is built to survive metal work. Diablo uses high speed steel with a Thermal Shield protective coating to help the tip resist heat buildup. That matters on small-diameter bits because heat is usually what kills them first, especially when you are drilling stainless or making repeated holes in sheet stock. Diablo also calls out an optimized flute design to move chips and shavings out faster, which helps the bit stay cooler and keeps the cut moving instead of rubbing.

The 130 degree split point tip is another practical feature. On the job, that means the bit is less likely to skate across slick metal before it bites. You get a more controlled start, less need for a pilot hole in many situations, and better hole placement when you are working off a punch mark or drilling close to an edge. Diablo also states the cutting edges are precision CNC ground for faster drilling, which ties directly to cleaner starts and more efficient cutting through tough metals.

This 2-piece pack is a good fit for users who burn through smaller bits and want spares on hand without jumping to a bulk pack. The bit diameter is 1/8 inch, overall length is 2.6 inches, drilling depth is 1.4 inches, and shank diameter is 1/8 inch. That makes it a straightforward size for common pilot holes, sheet metal fastening prep, light fabrication, electrical and HVAC work, and general repair tasks where a small, precise hole is more important than brute force.

Diablo positions this as an all-in-one metal drilling solution, and the supported material list backs that up. In addition to steel applications, it can also be used in wood and plastic. That is useful for installers and service techs who move between brackets, housings, panels, and finished materials in the same day. Instead of chasing specialty bits for every stop, you can keep one type loaded for a wider range of work.

For tool compatibility, this bit is suited to standard drill/drivers and drill presses. That gives you flexibility whether you are doing overhead field work with a cordless drill or more controlled shop drilling at the bench. It is still a small 1/8 inch bit, so the real advantage is precision and control, not big-hole production.

Who should buy it? Anyone doing metal fastening prep, panel work, light fab, maintenance, mechanical installs, or service work where small holes in hard materials are routine. Pros will appreciate the focus on heat management, chip evacuation, and start accuracy. Serious DIY users will like that it covers multiple materials without needing a drawer full of different small bits.

Diablo DMD18JP2 Metal Demon 1/8 in. High Speed Steel Drill Bits Built for Repeated Metal Drilling

Small bits do a lot of real work, and they fail fast if they cannot deal with heat and chip load. This set is built to stay useful longer when you are drilling metal instead of just surviving a few holes and getting tossed.

• Up to 30 times longer life than standard titanium, cobalt, and black oxide drill bits according to Diablo
• Optimized flute design removes debris faster to help keep the tip cooler
• 130 degree split point helps with accurate starts and reduces walking on metal surfaces

Built For

Metalworking HVAC Electrical Maintenance Automotive General Contracting Sheet Metal Stainless Steel Drilling

Pro Tip

When you are drilling stainless with a 1/8 inch bit, keep steady pressure and do not overspeed it. Let the split point bite, clear chips often, and you will get better hole quality and a lot more life out of the bit.

Small Bit, Real Upgrade

The Diablo DMD18JP2 Metal Demon 1/8 in. High Speed Steel Drill Bits is the kind of small-bit pack that makes sense if you drill metal often enough to care about heat, walking, and early bit failure.

• Who it's for: Pros and serious DIY users doing pilot holes in steel, stainless, cast iron, and sheet metal with a drill/driver or drill press.
• Why it stands out: The split point, heat-focused coating, and chip-clearing flute design all target the stuff that actually kills small drill bits on the job.
• Worth knowing: This is a 1/8 inch 2-pack, so it is best thought of as a precision pilot-hole and light fabrication size, not a general full-range bit set.

Common Questions

• What materials can this drill bit drill? It is designed for mild steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and sheet metal, and it can also be used on wood and plastic.
