Key Features

Built for Hard SurfacesThis Diablo hard tile and stone drill bit is made for drilling clean, accurate holes in hard tile, stone, and glass where standard bits tend to skate, chip, or burn out early.Carbide That LastsThe carbide tipped design delivers faster starts and up to 10X longer life versus standard glass and tile drill bits, which means fewer bit changes when you are working through tough material.Hex Shank ControlThe hex shank helps stop spinning in the chuck and improves power transfer from the drill to the bit, so the bit stays planted when the material fights back.

Overview

Diablo DMANSP1040 5/16 in. Hard Tile & Stone Carbide Tipped Drill Bit is a carbide tipped drill bit built for making clean, precise holes in hard tile, stone, glass, and similar tough surfaces. This is a glass and tile drill bit designed for hard tile and stone drilling. Model Number: DMANSP1040. If you are mounting hardware through porcelain, ceramic tile, marble, granite, or natural stone, this is the kind of bit that matters because starting the hole cleanly is usually the hardest part.

What separates this bit from a basic tile bit is the tip design. Diablo uses a multi-ground carbide Grip Point tip with an asymmetric design to improve starting speed, stability, and accuracy. In practical terms, that means less wandering on slick glazed surfaces and a better chance of getting the hole exactly where you marked it. When you are drilling for anchors, grab bars, bath accessories, or finish hardware, that extra control saves tile and saves time.

The carbide construction is there for more than just spec-sheet talk. Diablo states this bit delivers up to 10X longer life versus standard glass and tile drill bits, and the carbide is optimized through a brazing and hardening process to hold up better under impact. For users drilling repeated holes in hard materials, longer bit life matters because hard tile and stone can eat through lower-grade bits fast.

The 5/16 in. diameter makes this a useful size for common fastening and anchor work, while the 3-1/2 in. overall length gives enough reach for standard drilling tasks without getting awkward in a drill driver. The hex shank is another real-world advantage. It helps eliminate spinning in the chuck, improves stability, and transfers power more effectively from the tool to the bit. That matters most when you are drilling dense material where a round shank can slip and polish the shank instead of cutting the hole.

This bit is designed to run in cordless and corded drill drivers and is also listed as ideal for hammer and rotary drills. It is impact rated as well, which gives it broader tool compatibility than many specialty tile bits. That makes it a solid fit for contractors and serious DIY users who do not want a one-trick accessory that only works in one setup.

If your work regularly involves ceramic tile, porcelain, marble, granite, natural stone, or glass, the Diablo DMANSP1040 earns its keep. It is especially useful for remodelers, tile installers, plumbers, and maintenance crews who need a specialty drilling bit that starts fast, stays put, and lasts longer than bargain-bin options. If you only drill a hole once in a blue moon, it may be more bit than you need. If you drill hard finishes often, this is the smarter buy.

Start Cleaner Holes in Slick Tile

The business end of this bit is built to solve the biggest problem with tile drilling: getting started without the bit walking across the surface. The carbide Grip Point tip is shaped for aggressive starts and cleaner, more controlled hole placement.

• 5/16 in. diameter for common anchor and hardware drilling tasks
• Multi-ground carbide tip improves stability and drilling accuracy
• Hex shank helps reduce chuck slip under load

Tool Nut's Take

Diablo DMANSP1040 5/16 in. Hard Tile & Stone Carbide Tipped Drill Bit is the right call for tough finish materials

If you drill tile and stone often enough to care about clean starts and bit life, this one makes sense fast.

• Who it's for: Remodelers, plumbers, tile installers, and serious DIY users drilling into porcelain, ceramic tile, stone, marble, granite, or glass.
• Why it stands out: The carbide Grip Point tip and hex shank deal with the two big headaches in this category, starting accurately and keeping the bit from slipping in the chuck.
• Worth knowing: This is a single specialty bit, not a set. It is built for hard surface drilling, so it is best bought by someone who actually works in tile, stone, and glass instead of someone looking for a general-purpose masonry bit.
