Key Features

Wide Scaling Edge The 3 inch wide chisel face removes more material per pass, so you spend less time chipping at concrete, thin-set, scale, and rust. Built for Impact Diablo uses a heat treatment process that strengthens the chisel for impact resistance and stability under repeated hammer action in concrete work. SDS-Max Fit This Diablo DMAMXCH1000 scaling chisel is made for corded and cordless SDS-Max rotary hammers, giving demolition crews a proper interface for heavy-duty concrete chiseling.

Overview

The Diablo DMAMXCH1000 3 in. x 12 in. SDS-Max Scaling Chisel is a demolition accessory built for concrete surface removal and cleanup work. This is a scaling chisel designed for general demolition, thin-set removal, concrete cleaning, and scale and rust removal. Model Number: DMAMXCH1000. If you are running an SDS-Max rotary hammer and need to strip, scrape, or break loose material across a wider area, this is the style of chisel that makes the job move faster.

What matters most here is the shape. The 3 inch wide scaling edge covers more surface area than a narrow point or standard flat chisel, which means less effort and fewer passes when you are knocking off thin-set, cleaning up concrete, or removing buildup from a slab or wall. That wide profile is the whole reason to choose this accessory. It is built to remove material efficiently instead of concentrating impact into a tiny spot.

Diablo calls out extreme durability and longer life in concrete, and that lines up with the tool's intended use. A unique heat treatment process is used to strengthen the chisel for impact resistance and stability. In practical terms, that means the body is built to handle repeated hammer energy without giving up performance early when used in demanding concrete and masonry work.

The 12 inch overall length gives you a useful balance between reach and control. It is long enough to keep your hands clear while working near floors, walls, and rough surfaces, but still compact enough to stay manageable inside tighter demolition areas. For guys doing surface prep, tile removal, or cleanup after rough demo, that balance matters.

This accessory uses an SDS-Max shank, so it is meant for heavier rotary hammers that accept SDS-Max chisels and demolition accessories. Diablo specifically states it is optimized for maximum performance in both corded and cordless SDS-Max rotary hammers. That makes it a good fit for crews already working on an SDS-Max platform who want one chisel that can move between different hammers on the job.

The best use case for this Diablo scaling chisel is surface removal, not precision detail work. If you need to strip thin-set, knock off scale, remove rust, or clean and level concrete areas with less wasted motion, the wide blade shape is the right call. If you are trying to break a concentrated starting point or chase a narrow line, a point chisel or narrower flat chisel would make more sense. This one is for fast material removal across broader areas.

Who should buy it? Concrete workers, remodelers, tile contractors, masons, and general contractors who already own an SDS-Max rotary hammer and need a dedicated scaling chisel for demolition and surface prep. Serious DIY users with the right hammer can use it too, but this accessory really makes the most sense for people who regularly deal with concrete cleanup and removal tasks.

Cover More Surface With Each Pass

The wide blade profile is what makes this chisel useful on real demolition and surface prep jobs. Instead of pecking away at concrete or adhesive with a narrow edge, you can work broader sections more efficiently.

• 3 inch scaling edge helps remove material with fewer passes
• Ideal for thin-set removal, concrete cleaning, scale removal, and rust removal

Pro Tip

Use a wide scaling chisel like this when you are removing thin-set or cleaning concrete, then switch to a narrower chisel only for corners and tight spots. That keeps the big tool doing the bulk work instead of wasting time on detail passes across open surface area.

Tool Nut's Take

Diablo DMAMXCH1000 SDS-Max Scaling Chisel Gets the Messy Work Done Faster

If your job is knocking off material across a broad surface, this is the right chisel shape and the right shank style to keep an SDS-Max hammer earning its keep.

• Who it's for: Contractors, remodelers, and concrete or tile crews using SDS-Max rotary hammers for demolition and cleanup work.
• Why it stands out: The 3 inch scaling edge covers ground quickly, and the heat-treated body is built to hold up under repeated concrete work.
• Worth knowing: This is a single-purpose demolition accessory. It is great for wide-area removal, but it is not the chisel you grab for tight, precise breakout work.
