Key Features

Built for Rebar This SDS-Max hammer drill bit is made to keep drilling when standard bits get chewed up by reinforced concrete. The 4-cutter full carbide head helps it stay accurate and keep moving through concrete, concrete with rebar, brick, and block. Full Carbide Head Diablo's Dura-Carbide design uses more carbide and handles much higher heat than standard bits. That matters when you hit rebar, because heat and impact are what usually kill a masonry bit fast. Longer Bit Life Diablo rates it for up to 7X longer life versus standard 2-cutter hammer drill bits. For anchor work and repeated holes in reinforced concrete, that can mean fewer bit changes and less wasted time.

Overview

The Diablo DMAMX1180 7/8 in. x 16 in. x 21 in. Rebar Demon SDS-Max 4-Cutter Full Carbide Head Hammer Drill Bit is a rotary hammer drill bit built for heavy masonry drilling in concrete and reinforced concrete. This is a hammer drill bit designed for drilling anchor holes and through-holes in concrete, concrete with rebar, brick, and block. Model Number: DMAMX1180. With a 7/8 inch diameter, 16 inch drilling depth, and 21 inch overall length, it is sized for deep hole work where reach and durability matter more than anything else.

What makes this bit worth looking at is not just the size, but how it is built to survive rebar contact. Diablo uses a 4-cutter full carbide head instead of the simpler 2-cutter style found on many standard hammer drill bits. In practical use, that means the bit is better equipped to stay on line, hold its shape, and keep making usable holes when it runs into reinforcing steel. Diablo also claims up to 7X longer life versus standard 2-cutter hammer drill bits, which is the kind of spec that matters if you drill a lot of holes in structural concrete and do not want to burn through bits every few jobs.

The carbide story matters here. Diablo's Dura-Carbide formulation is built to handle high impact and high heat, and the brand calls out that it uses up to 2X more carbide than standard bits. When a bit hits rebar, the heat spike and shock load are usually what cause premature failure. That is why Diablo also uses Tri-Metal Fusion Welding to strengthen the connection between the body and the carbide head. The point is simple: the head is built to stay together under abuse instead of breaking down the first time the bit finds steel inside the concrete.

Accuracy is another real advantage. Diablo includes a wear mark indicator to help you know when the bit is still cutting holes to proper size, and the precision tip is designed for stable starts and cleaner tracking. If you are setting anchors, sleeve anchors, wedge anchors, or drilling repeat holes that need to stay consistent, that kind of stability saves rework. A sloppy hole in masonry is not a small problem. It can turn into weak anchor hold, wasted fasteners, and one more trip back up the ladder.

On the jobsite, the flute design matters just as much as the tip. Diablo uses an optimized flute pattern to clear dust faster and keep the cutting head cooler. Better dust removal helps the bit cut more consistently and reduces heat buildup at the head, which is a big factor in carbide life. For deep drilling, especially in dense concrete, faster dust evacuation also means less bogging and less time pulling the bit to clear the hole.

Compatibility is straightforward. This bit uses an SDS-Max shank and is optimized for both corded and cordless SDS-Max rotary hammers. It is not a general-purpose masonry bit for a standard drill. It is for users running real rotary hammers and drilling in hard material where a smaller platform is the wrong tool for the job. If you are a concrete contractor, mechanical contractor, electrician, plumber, remodeler, or serious DIY user working in reinforced concrete, this is the kind of bit you buy when you want fewer surprises and longer service life.

Stays Productive in Reinforced Concrete

The cutting head is designed for the kind of work that ruins ordinary masonry bits. When the job calls for deep anchor holes in concrete or drilling where rebar contact is likely, this bit is built to keep the hole on size and the work moving.

• 4-cutter full carbide head for concrete and concrete with rebar
• Precision tip helps with controlled starts and hole accuracy
• Wear mark indicator helps confirm the bit is still producing proper hole size

Made for Deep SDS-Max Drilling

The 21 inch overall length and 16 inch drilling depth make this a practical choice when shallow bits are not enough. It is built for SDS-Max rotary hammers, so it belongs in larger drilling platforms used for tougher concrete and longer holes.

• 7/8 in. bit diameter for larger anchor and pass-through work
• 16 in. drilling depth for deep hole applications
• Optimized flute design clears dust faster to help reduce heat buildup

Pro Tip

When you are drilling deep anchor holes in reinforced concrete, back the bit out periodically to let the flute clear dust. This bit is designed to evacuate debris well, and giving it room to do that helps it run cooler and hold speed on longer holes.

Tool Nut's Take

Diablo DMAMX1180 Hammer Drill Bit for Concrete and Rebar Work

The Diablo DMAMX1180 is the kind of SDS-Max bit you buy when reinforced concrete is part of the plan, not an occasional surprise.

• Who it's for: Pros and serious DIY users running SDS-Max rotary hammers for anchor drilling, mechanical rough-in, electrical installs, plumbing penetrations, and concrete work where rebar contact is common.
• Why it stands out: The full carbide 4-cutter head, Tri-Metal Fusion Welding, and dust-clearing flute design all point to the same goal: better hole quality and better survival when the bit meets steel.
• Worth knowing: This is an SDS-Max accessory, so make sure your rotary hammer matches the shank. If you are using a smaller platform, this is not the right bit for that tool.
