Deeper One-Pass Cuts The 2-3/8 inch cutting depth lets this hole saw get through thicker material in one pass, which means fewer stops and less time fighting a shallow cup. Fast Mandrel Changes This Diablo DHS5000 5-in. Bi-Metal Hole Saw works with the Snap-Lock Plus mandrel system, so swapping sizes is quick and plug removal is easier when the job keeps moving. Smoother Variable Teeth The variable tooth design is built for faster cutting with less vibration, which helps the saw track cleaner and keeps the drill from feeling as jumpy.

Overview

The Diablo DHS5000 5-in. Bi-Metal Hole Saw is a 5 inch bi-metal hole saw built for cutting large-diameter holes in wood, plastic, aluminum, metal, and stainless steel. This is a hole saw designed for drilling large round openings through mixed jobsite materials. Model Number: DHS5000. If you need a bigger opening for ducting, access holes, or pass-through work, this saw is built around cutting depth and faster changeovers instead of the usual slow, shallow setup.

The big spec that matters here is the 2-3/8 inch cutting depth. Diablo rates that as 40% deeper than standard hole saws, and that matters because deeper cups mean a better chance of getting through material in one shot instead of backing out, clearing chips, and finishing from the other side. On the job, that saves time when you are boring through layered material like siding over sheathing, wood assemblies, or thicker wall sections.

This 5 inch hole saw also uses Diablo's Snap-Lock Plus mandrel system. That setup is meant to make mounting faster and reduce the usual mess of threading and unthreading hole saws every time you change diameter. If you use more than one size during a job, that system matters. It cuts down on downtime and makes the hole saw more practical for installers and tradespeople who do repeated bore work.

Another practical feature is tool-free plug ejection. Anyone who has spent too much time digging packed material out of a hole saw with a screwdriver knows why this matters. Faster plug removal keeps the work moving, especially in wood and similar materials where the slug can hang up and slow the next cut.

Diablo also calls out a variable tooth design for faster cuts with less vibration. That is not just spec sheet filler. On a large-diameter hole saw, smoother cutting helps with control, especially when the saw first engages the workpiece. Less vibration can mean cleaner starts, less chatter, and a drill that feels easier to manage during the cut.

Material range is broad for this bi-metal hole saw. It is rated for use in wood, plastic, aluminum, metal, stainless steel, fiberglass, gypsum, plaster, PVC, sheet metal, steel, and wood with nails. That makes it a true multi-purpose cutting accessory instead of a single-material specialty saw. For contractors, maintenance crews, remodelers, and serious DIY users, that wider application range means you can keep one saw on hand for more than one kind of opening work.

There are a couple things worth being direct about. The mandrel is required and not included, so this is not a grab-it-and-go setup if you do not already have the Diablo Snap-Lock Plus mandrel. It also requires a minimum 3/8 inch chuck size on the drill. That is worth checking before you order, especially if you plan to run it on a more compact drill.

Who should buy it? This large-diameter hole saw makes the most sense for HVAC installers, electricians, remodelers, general contractors, maintenance techs, and advanced DIY users who need a 5 inch opening and want deeper cutting capacity with a quick-change mandrel platform. If your work involves repeated hole saw changes, thicker material, or mixed substrates, this setup has a real jobsite advantage over a basic shallow cup saw.

Large Openings Without the Usual Slowdown

When you jump to a 5 inch hole saw, control and efficiency matter as much as raw diameter. This one is built to cut deeper, clear plugs faster, and spend less time on attachment changes.

• 5 inch hole saw diameter for larger pass-through and access openings
• 2-3/8 inch cutting depth for deeper one-pass drilling
• Bi-metal construction for multi-material cutting

Pro Tip

If you are using this 5 inch hole saw in thicker material, clear the plug as soon as the cup starts packing up instead of forcing the cut. The tool-free plug ejection is there for a reason, and using it early helps keep the saw cutting cleaner and the drill easier to control.
