Gas-Class Cutting PowerThis DEWALT DCST975Y2 string trimmer is built for serious overgrowth, not light touch-up work. It delivers up to 30% more power and up to 67% more max torque than a 28.4cc gas trimmer, so it keeps cutting when the brush gets thick.Long RuntimeThe brushless motor helps stretch each charge up to 69 minutes of no-load runtime. That matters when you are covering large properties and do not want to stop early for a battery swap.Job-Ready ControlsThree speed settings and an LED dashboard let you match output to the material and keep an eye on charge level. Run lower speed for lighter trimming, then step up when weeds and brush fight back.

Overview

The DEWALT DCST975Y2 60V MAX 16-1/2 in. Brushless Cordless String Trimmer Kit is a cordless string trimmer built for large-property maintenance and commercial landscaping. This is a string trimmer designed for cutting grass, heavy weeds, and dense brush without the fuel mixing, pull starts, and routine engine upkeep that come with gas equipment. Model Number: DCST975Y2. If you need a battery-powered trimmer that can handle more than basic edging duty, this is the one DEWALT aimed at the pro user.

The big story here is output. DEWALT rates this unit at up to 30% more power than a 28.4cc gas trimmer, with up to 67% more max torque for tougher material. In plain terms, that means the head keeps working through thick overgrowth instead of bogging down the second you leave soft grass. The 16-1/2 inch cutting swath also helps cover ground faster, which matters when you are trimming fence lines, lot perimeters, and long stretches around buildings.

Runtime is another reason this trimmer stands out. The high-efficiency brushless motor is designed to get more work from each charge, with up to 69 minutes of no-load runtime per charge when used in Eco mode with the recommended battery setup. Brushless tools also tend to run cooler and waste less energy, which is a real advantage when you are trying to get through a long workday with fewer interruptions.

DEWALT also paid attention to operator fatigue. The tool is engineered to be lightweight for its class, with a claimed 26% lower weight versus a 28.4cc gas trimmer. That matters on long days because trimming is repetitive work. Less weight means less strain on your shoulders and arms when you are moving between open runs, obstacles, and uneven ground. For crews maintaining larger commercial properties, that can add up fast over a full shift.

The cutting setup is built for serious trimming duty, not just fine grass work. This cordless trimmer accepts both .095 inch and .105 inch line, giving you flexibility depending on the material. The lighter line size can make sense for routine trimming where efficiency matters, while the heavier line is better when you are clearing stubborn weeds, heavy growth, and rougher property edges.

From a usability standpoint, the dashboard control is one of the smarter touches on this model. You get 3 speed settings plus an LED state-of-charge display right on the tool. That gives you more control over how aggressively the trimmer runs and how much battery you are burning through. On easier material, lower speed helps stretch runtime. When the job turns into brush clearing, higher speed gives you the extra hit you need.

Because this is a kit and not a bare tool, you can get straight to work. DEWALT includes the string trimmer, charger, and two 60V MAX batteries. That makes the DCST975Y2 a better fit for buyers who need a ready-to-run setup instead of piecing together batteries and charging gear separately. It is also part of the DEWALT 60V MAX battery platform, which matters if you already run other FlexVOLT outdoor power equipment or heavy-demand cordless tools.

Who is this for? Landscapers, grounds crews, property maintenance teams, and homeowners with a lot of acreage or rough growth to manage. If your normal trimming work involves thick fence rows, ditch lines, commercial lots, or areas where a light-duty trimmer quits too soon, this DEWALT cordless string trimmer makes a strong case. If you only trim a small suburban yard once a week, it is probably more tool than you need. For bigger work, though, this model is built to earn its keep.

Cut More Ground Per Pass

The 16-1/2 inch swath is there for one reason: productivity. A wider cut means fewer passes around long fence lines, large lots, and property edges.

• 16-1/2 in. cutting swath helps cover open areas faster
• Handles both .095 in. and .105 in. trimmer line for light trimming or heavier brush work

Adjust Output for the Job

Not every area needs full power all the time. The 3-speed setup lets you save battery on routine trimming and then step up when you hit thicker weeds or brush.

• 3 speed settings let you balance runtime and cutting force
• LED dashboard shows state of charge so you can plan battery swaps instead of guessing

Built for Long Days

This trimmer is aimed at users who stay on the trigger for more than a few minutes at a time. The lightweight design and brushless motor are about reducing fatigue and downtime across bigger properties.

• Up to 26% lower weight than a comparable 28.4cc gas trimmer
• Up to 69 minutes of no-load runtime per charge in Eco mode with DCB612 battery
